PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lily Foster (ranked 5857 p4p, 6047 weight class) and Matt King (ranked 249 p4p, 253 weight class). Matt King is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lily Foster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt King!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Andrew Berry and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Foster tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but King was well out of range. Poor timing from Foster.
King with the counter takedown but Foster avoids it easily.

King shoots in and gets a takedown into Foster's guard.
King sitting in guard, not really doing much.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Foster is looking to stand up but King isn't so interested in that idea.
Foster on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Foster tries to get out of the position.
King looking to pass the guard.
Foster working a defensive guard but King passes into half guard.
Foster is looking to improve his position.
King trying to control the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Foster misses with a series of wild punches.
Foster misses with a leg kick.
Foster feints a jab promting King to slip. Foster then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. King slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
King looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Foster takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Foster fails with a takedown attempt.
Foster tries a low kick but King avoids it.

King has closed the distance and engaged Foster in a clinch.
Foster fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Foster prevents a takedown attempt there.
Foster looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
King has Foster pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Foster manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
King has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Foster avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Lily Foster has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt King.
Foster can't break the clinch.
Foster gets underhooks to prevent King's takedown attempt.
Foster is pressed up against the cage. King has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Foster down to the mat. Foster avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
King throws out a loose jab but Foster uses good head movement to avoid it.
Foster appears to be looking for a big counter.

King rushes Foster and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Foster can't find room to land a body shot as King controls the action.
Foster tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. King just stands there and leans against the cage.

Foster is stalling here.
King wants a takedown.
King is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Foster pulls him back up using the underhooks.
King tries for a takedown but Foster manages to get underhooks.

Foster breaks from the clinch.
King swings widly with a right hand
and Foster makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
A decent looking cross lands there for King.
Foster pulls out of a head kick attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Foster changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. King tries to avoid it but Foster manages to keep hold of a leg and drag King to the ground. King escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from King. Foster does a little dance to reset his feet.
King dodges the punch combination from Foster.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lily Foster will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Foster shoots for a takedown but King saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
And King tries to counter it with a takedown but Foster pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Foster throws a right and a left that King avoids nicely.
King tries to counter by closing the distance.
Foster just misses with a punch to the body.
King feints the counter takedown.
Foster staying out of range there.
King connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Foster's hands.
King lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Foster attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Lily Foster seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

King works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Foster takes one to the side of the head.
Foster on the wrong end of a nice jab.
King is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Foster stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Foster wants it to stay on the feet.
Foster tries for a takedown but King sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Foster!

Foster is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Foster pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown attempt by King or perhaps it was just good defense by Foster, which made it look bad.

King has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Foster tries to clinch but King is having none of it.

Foster escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Foster dives in and grabs King's left leg, looking for a takedown. King pushes down on Foster's head and hops out.

Foster cracks King with a right hand to the side of the head.
Foster shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Foster tries to clinch but King is having none of it.

Foster moves into the clinch successfully.
King goes for a takedown attempt but Foster pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Foster ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

King tries to sprawl but Foster drives through with a takedown into half guard.

King manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Foster keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
King has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Foster is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
King tries to score a body lock takedown but Foster shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Matt King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Foster throws a combination but it was largely blocked by King.
Foster dives in for a single leg takedown but King sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Foster breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
King shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Foster sprawls well. Foster wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. King gets slowly back to his feet.

Foster works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

King has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Foster off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

King might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Foster fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but King avoids it really well and circles away.
King is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Foster moves into the clinch.
King has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Foster is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
King has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Foster after a bit of a struggle.
Lily Foster has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt King.

King tries for a takedown. No joy.
King can't get the takedown.

Foster tries to pull guard but King forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Foster jumps guard but King stands there with Foster around his waist. Foster gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Foster turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Foster manages to end up in side control.

King bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Foster looks for a takedown but King sprawls well.
Foster shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts King as he jumps to the side.

Foster ducks under a wild hook from King.
Foster pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces King back to the cage. Foster follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
King misses with a straight right.
King stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and King wants it to stay on the feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Foster works over King's head and body with a nice combination.
Foster scores with a one two! King had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Foster drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

King uses the cage to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Foster tries to kick King off in order to stand up. King Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

King stands up and beckons Foster to his feet.
Lily Foster is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
King misses with a straight right.
King connects with a looping right hand.
Foster wants to clinch up but King keeps it at a distance.
Foster throws a series of punches but King avoids them all with ease.
King loads up on a big right hand but Foster slips the punch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Foster or perhaps it was just good defense by King, which made it look bad.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Matt King.
I think King has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
