PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Condor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and the champ (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Condor comes into the arena with Sepultura - Ratamahatta blaring out of the sound system. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pablo Condor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, the champ!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

champ darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

champ is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Condor has managed to free his arm - good work.
champ perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

champ is looking for a kimura but Condor is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for champ to get the leverage.
champ moves into full mount! Condor won't be happy about that!
Condor is looking to get to half guard.
champ trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Condor holds on to champ as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
Condor is trying to escape the mount.

Condor tries to lock up and control but champ gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Condor defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from champ.
Condor tries to hold on but champ pushes him away.
Condor is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because champ is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

champ jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Condor is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Condor and champ has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

champ wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Condor, who protects the arm well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Condor is looking to work his way out of this bad position but champ is controlling him well.
Condor wants to control but champ postures up.
Condor tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but champ wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

champ tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no champ has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Condor's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Condor swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Condor darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
A nice combination there by Condor.
Nice uppercut there from Condor.
Condor tries a head kick but it misses.
Condor lands with a nice combination. champ backs away looking to recover.
Condor fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A right-left combo lands from Condor.
Some wild striking there from Condor.

Condor gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Condor looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
champ showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Condor trying to control the position.
champ trying to control the position from guard on top but Condor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
champ content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Condor seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Condor is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

champ has gone for a leg lock! Condor slips out almost immediately though and dives into champ's guard.
champ looks gassed!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Condor won't allow champ to sweep him here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pablo Condor will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Condor misses with a jab, cross combination.
champ is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Condor gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows champ to score an easy takedown into full guard.
champ wants to control from the top but Condor keeps moving.
champ pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Condor is keeping the position for now.

Condor escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. champ gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Condor will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Condor can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as champ controls the pace.

Condor has his foot on champ's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. champ works his way back into a safe position though.

champ is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Condor!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Condor tries to reverse the position but champ maintains control.

champ wants to finish this one by submission but Condor is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from champ.
champ is breathing heavily.

champ jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Condor is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Condor and champ has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Condor is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, champ asserts his dominance and retains side control.

champ looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

champ tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Both fighters take a look at the clock.
champ throwing strikes but Condor manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
champ drops his hands momentarily and Condor takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Nice uppercut there from Condor.
Jab, jab by Condor - just one landing.
Condor stuffs the takedown.
Condor bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Condor lands a with a good body shot.
Condor misses with a double jab.
champ closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Condor throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Condor digs a good body shot into champ's ribs.
Condor misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

champ scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Condor wants to get back to full guard.
Condor is controlling champ's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Condor is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

champ takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Condor is pulling down on champ's head. It's preventing any offense from champ, at least for the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
champ has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Condor finds it's way round the side to connect with champ's head.
champ walks into a left hand.
champ checks a leg kick.
Condor lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but champ circles away quickly and effectively.

champ drives through with a takedown into guard.
champ tries to free his leg and advance position but Condor is retaining full guard.
the champ has got the better of the ground game so far.
champ is standing up over Condor. Condor looks to escape but champ dives into side control.

Condor is trying to control champ's posture but champ avoids it.

champ is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Condor is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

champ wants to control but Condor is keeping him busy.

You can see the frustration on Condor's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Condor is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Condor throws a leg kick that misses.
Condor throws a sloppy head kick and champ moves out of range easily.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Condor is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
