PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pierre Ragout Mendy (ranked 1926 p4p, 24198 weight class) and Paul Herrera (ranked 252 p4p, 601 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pierre Ragout Mendy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paul Herrera!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Aafke Stam and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Herrera defending well as Mendy loads up on a big left hand.
Herrera wants to counter the offense by Mendy and move into the clinch position.
Herrera fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mendy throws a leg kick that misses.
Mendy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Herrera looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Mendy looks to land a combination but Herrera avoids it well.
Mendy on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Herrera swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Mendy misses with the combination.
Herrera is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Mendy with a body shot.
Mendy misses with a left hand
and Herrera counters with a left and a right that stings Mendy.
Herrera wants to clinch.
Mendy misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Herrera.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendy misses with an uppercut.
Herrera fails with the takedown

and Mendy counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mendy working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Herrera is trying to keep Mendy in close.
Mendy is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Kaptajnernes Træningscenter that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Mendy stays in close to Herrera's body and controls the position.
Mendy seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Herrera for as long as he can get away with.
Herrera looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mendy is one step ahead there.
Mendy lands a couple of elbows.

Mendy is in close to Herrera's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Herrera trying to keep a closed guard but Mendy is proving a slippery customer.
Mendy's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Mendy chips away with some ground and pound.
Mendy connects with a couple of short punches.
Mendy postures up and lands a big shot to Herrera's brow.
Mendy is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Mendy avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mendy engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Mendy slips nicely into half guard.
Herrera is trying to stand up here but Mendy is controlling him well.
Mendy lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Mendy perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mendy lands with a punch from half guard.
Mendy looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Mendy working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Mendy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mendy is nestled in close to Herrera, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Herrera is looking to improve his position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mendy lands a nice short elbow.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Pierre Ragout Mendy dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Herrera slips under a jab from Mendy.
As Mendy backs off Herrera throws a huge counter combo but Mendy manages to avoid it all.
Pierre Ragout Mendy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mendy throws a looping overhand right but Herrera ducks down to avoid it.
Mendy throws a shot from downtown. Herrera moves away and avoids it.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Herrera.
Mendy throws a combination that misses
and Herrera counters with a straight right hand.
Mendy looks to land a left hand but Herrera moved out of range nicely.

Mendy gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Pierre Ragout Mendy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Herrera trying to control but Mendy is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mendy has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Herrera has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Mendy has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Herrera after a bit of a struggle.

Mendy gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Herrera is looking to stand back up but Mendy counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Herrera.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Herrera is looking for a sweep. Mendy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendy looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Mendy keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Herrera wants to get back to his feet.
Herrera trying to control here.
Mendy passes the guard and advances to mount!
Mendy landing strikes from the mount.
Mendy connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Herrera's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mendy has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Herrera's face.
Herrera tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mendy avoids the attempt from Herrera to control.
Mendy working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Mendy cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Herrera is rocked!
Mendy cracks Herrera with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Pierre Ragout Mendy!
Pierre Ragout Mendy very nearly forgot to thank Altitude Clothing amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
The defeated Paul Herrera had this to say: 'I love you all!'.
