These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tonying Americano!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Americano's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Americano duly obliges.


It looks like Herbert Monsignor has been cut.

Monsignor drives through and clinches with Americano against the cage.
Monsignor wants a takedown but no success here.
Monsignor tries to pull guard but Americano holds him up against the cage and eventually Monsignor drops back down to his feet.
Americano takes an elbow to the forehead.
Monsignor changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Americano fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Herbert Monsignor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Americano connects with a solid leg kick.

Tonying Americano seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Monsignor counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Americano's guard now.
Americano pulls Monsignor in close to his closed guard and prevents Monsignor from doing any damage or advancing position.
Americano wants to get back to his feet but Monsignor is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Monsignor loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Americano has Monsignor pulled in close to control his posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Monsignor drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Americano manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Monsignor has Americano in his guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Monsignor counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Americano preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Monsignor wants to free his trapped foot but Americano is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Monsignor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Americano keeps working.
Monsignor stalling away here and it's allowed Americano to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Monsignor postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Americano is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Monsignor, into his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Monsignor has an active guard here but Americano has managed to pass into half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Monsignor gets back to full guard.
Americano must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Monsignor looking for subs off his back but Americano has passed one foot through into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Americano content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

That was a close second round but I would say that Herbert Monsignor will probably get the nod.

Despite being in the dominant position, Tonying Americano just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
