PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Logan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and THE BEAST (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Logan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, THE BEAST!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
BEAST tries to close the distance and clinch but Logan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Logan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Logan lands in his opponent's guard.
BEAST is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Logan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Logan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
BEAST thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

BEAST is pulling down on Logan's head. It's preventing any offense from Logan, at least for the moment.
Logan wants to control from the top but BEAST keeps moving.

Logan has gone for a leg lock! BEAST slips out almost immediately though and dives into Logan's guard.

Logan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. BEAST gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
BEAST stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Logan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
BEAST postures up in Logan's guard and throws a big left but Logan blocks it.
BEAST wants to control from the top but Logan keeps moving.

Logan looking for a guillotine here but BEAST defends easily.
Logan is breathing heavily.

Logan looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! BEAST has picked Logan up and slammed him! Logan can't keep hold of the triangle and BEAST manages to pass to side control!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Logan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Logan gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

BEAST jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Logan manages to avoid the submission attempt.
BEAST works to advance to full mount. Logan defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
BEAST scores with a couple of good head shots there.
BEAST can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Logan is looking to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
BEAST is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Logan can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

BEAST jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Logan manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Logan is trying to improve his position.

BEAST decides to take the fight back to the feet.

and Logan counters by moving into the clinch.

Logan takes a shot to the head.

Logan has picked BEAST up - he's going for a ride! Logan dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Logan slows the pace down in half guard.
BEAST looks like he's trying to stand up.

Logan passes to side control.
Logan in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Logan will probably get the nod.

BEAST tries to clinch

and Logan counters with a single leg into guard. BEAST didn't expect that.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Logan here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

BEAST is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Logan drops back, looking for a kneebar! BEAST looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. BEAST looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from BEAST!
BEAST wants to lay and pray for a moment but Logan keeps working.
Logan manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
BEAST thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Logan's head.
BEAST tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Logan throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Logan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of BEAST's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take BEAST's back!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Logan scores with punches and elbows.
Logan gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
BEAST is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Logan is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. BEAST defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Will Logan go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

BEAST is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Logan gets his way!

Logan scores with punches to the body.
Logan has BEAST flattened out and is raining down punches.

BEAST covers up after that shot from Logan.
BEAST is covering up but some of the strikes from Logan are getting through and doing damage.

Logan is working for a rear naked choke. BEAST is not defending it well and Logan has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! BEAST refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of BEAST's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
