Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hans Gruber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fred Portos!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gruber.
Gruber tries to move to mount but Portos blocks the move with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gruber creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Gruber thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Portos looks to move to half guard but instead Gruber has passed into mount! Damn!
Gruber postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Portos looks a forlorn figure.
Gruber controlling the pace for now.
Portos in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Gruber is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Portos is trying to escape the mount.
Gruber is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Portos can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Gruber wants to control but instead Portos manages to regain half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Portos is refusing to be controlled, as Gruber sits in half guard.

Gruber tries to pass the half guard into mount. Portos knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Gruber is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Gruber has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Portos wants to control but Gruber is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Gruber is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Gruber decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Gruber decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Gruber trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gruber is pushing down on Portos's leg trying to pass to half guard. Portos is fighting to maintain full guard but Gruber has managed to sneak the leg through.

Gruber wants to lay and pray for a moment but Portos keeps working.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Portos can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gruber is pressing down on Portos's thigh, looking to free his foot. Portos is holding on for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hans Gruber dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Portos moves into the clinch successfully.
Gruber changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Portos fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Gruber looks for a takedown but Portos sprawls well.

Portos scores a takedown into full mount!
Portos blocks Gruber's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Hans Gruber overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gruber is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Portos content just to control the position here.
Portos with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Gruber manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Gruber is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Portos's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Portos's back!
Portos wants to escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gruber biding his time, looking for the opening.
Gruber is trying to stick to Portos's back but Portos is turning into Gruber. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Gruber's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Portos.

Gruber is looking for a triangle but Portos pushes his legs off easily.
Gruber has his hands on Portos's head, controlling the position.
Gruber is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Portos avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Portos won't allow Gruber to sweep him here.
Gruber manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Portos manages to get himself to full guard.
Portos has Gruber pulled in close to control his posture.
Gruber stands and throws Portos's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Gruber wants to lay and pray for a moment but Portos keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Gruber is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Portos knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Portos wants to control but Gruber postures up.
Portos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gruber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gruber has an Americana. Portos didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Gruber is delighted and gyrates infront of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Gruber hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
