PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Esponosa (ranked 2250 p4p, 1290 weight class) and Chester McBiden (ranked 264 p4p, 165 weight class). McBiden is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by End Like This. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricardo Esponosa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chester McBiden!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McBiden displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Esponosa.
Esponosa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McBiden's waist but McBiden gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Esponosa off to one side.
Esponosa shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricardo Esponosa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McBiden lands a head shot.
Esponosa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but McBiden defends well and Esponosa ends up having to push McBiden into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Esponosa has McBiden pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Esponosa pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending McBiden tumbling to the mat - Esponosa dives into McBiden's guard.
Esponosa controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Esponosa forces his way into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McBiden can do anything to dispel that myth.
McBiden is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Esponosa takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McBiden is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McBiden has hold of Esponosa's hands but Esponosa slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
McBiden pushes Esponosa off looking to stand but Esponosa dives back in and keeps control.

Esponosa maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! McBiden could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Esponosa has cracked it and McBiden is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Esponosa!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ricardo Esponosa!
A very excited looking Ricardo Esponosa rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
The defeated Chester McBiden had this to say: 'what the point of living if it just endless cycle of suffering'.
