Rick is looking to control Thumb's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rick avoid being mounted?

Thumb will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Thumb is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rick is just riding it out for now. Thumb eventually gives up the hold.

Rick wants to improve his position but Thumb is controlling well.
Rick has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Thumb wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rick keeps working.

Thumb is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rick doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Thumb.
Thumb wants to pass to mount but Rick is defending the position.

Rick is looking to regain half guard here but Thumb keeps moving and retains side control.

Thumb has hold of Rick's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Rick tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Thumb cranks the arm and Rick screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Rick, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Thom Thumb!
A relieved looking Thom Thumb thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
