PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vitor Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luiz Carbone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Carbone!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carbone shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Carbone was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Penn is trying desperately to improve position.
Penn sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Carbone prevents Penn from standing back up.
Penn is staying active underneath Carbone, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Penn kicks Carbone off and gets back to his feet.
Penn is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carbone.
Carbone lunges at Penn with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Penn's hand.
A punch combination from Carbone misses.
Carbone pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Penn throws a right hand that Carbone ducks under and follows up with a left that Carbone also avoids with ease.
Penn tries to bum rush Carbone with a series of wild strikes but Carbone uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Penn swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Carbone misses with a combination
and Penn counters with a one-two to the body.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Penn stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Penn fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Carbone scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Carbone is putting a hurting on Penn here, landing some big shots from side control.
Penn takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Penn is looking to regain half guard here but Carbone keeps moving and retains side control.
Carbone really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Penn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Carbone cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Carbone fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Carbone lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Carbone is trying to get an arm triangle but Penn is defending well.

Penn throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Carbone takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Carbone wants to take a breather but Penn is having none of it.
Carbone is thwarting Penn's attempts to control the position.
Carbone drops an elbow to the side of Penn's head.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Penn is looking to escape.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Carbone throws a right and a left that both miss.
Penn is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Carbone.
Carbone misses with a low kick.

Carbone bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Penn takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Penn is looking for a sweep.
Carbone wants to lay and pray for a moment but Penn keeps working.
Penn gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Penn pushes Carbone off and gets back to his feet.

so Carbone counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Penn is on top in guard.

Carbone utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Carbone is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Carbone shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Penn's guard.
Penn wants to sweep here but Carbone controlling him for the moment.
Carbone wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving.
Penn has his hands on Carbone's head, controlling the position.
Carbone stops Penn from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luiz Carbone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!



Carbone clinches.
Penn tries to land a knee to the head but Carbone blocks with his arms.
Carbone has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Penn avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Carbone pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Penn is keeping the position for now.

Penn pushes a forearm under Carbone's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Carbone is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
