PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Angel Pierce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Dugre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pierce kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Billy Talent - Devil On My Shoulder. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Angel Pierce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Dugre!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pierce closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pierce lands in his opponent's guard.
Pierce trying to control the position from guard on top but Dugre is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dugre is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pierce content to stall in guard here.
Pierce wants to control from the top but Dugre keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Pierce drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dugre dives on top into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dugre accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Pierce is trying to keep Dugre in close.
Dugre controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Pierce really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Pierce working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Dugre has passed into half guard!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Pierce looking for submissions off his back.
Pierce trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Pierce is breathing heavily.
Dugre lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Pierce hang on?

Dugre wants to finish this one by submission but Pierce is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Dugre.
Dugre looking to control and managing it successfully.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Pierce manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Pierce wants to control but Dugre is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Dugre trying to control the action but Pierce is working from the bottom.
Dugre works his way into full mount!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dugre controlling the position easily from mount.
Dugre can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pierce is looking to escape.
Dugre might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Pierce kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chris Dugre will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Dugre throws a head kick but Pierce moves out of range.
Dugre tries to clinch but Pierce moves out of range.
Chris Dugre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pierce fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dugre sprawls well initially but Pierce persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Pierce seems to be looking for submissions.
Pierce prevents Dugre from improving his position.
Dugre manages to get to full guard.

Dugre has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Pierce off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pierce closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dugre to the mat! Dugre manages to get full guard.
Dugre is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Pierce dives into side control.
Dugre holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Pierce wants to control but Dugre is keeping him busy.

Pierce is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Dugre has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pierce wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dugre keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dugre controls the position for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dugre is not content to let Pierce control the position.
Pierce taking a break here but Dugre is having none of it and regains half guard.

Pierce is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dugre defends it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Dugre actively working from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dugre wants to get back to full guard.

Pierce seems to be looking for submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dugre is holding on to half guard well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Angel Pierce dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Dugre lands with a nice body kick.
Dugre shoots in looking for a takedown. Pierce tries to sprawl out of it but Dugre keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pierce manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Pierce will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Dugre is not content to let Pierce control the position.

Pierce is really struggling to control Dugre but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Pierce is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Dugre is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Pierce off and has taken his back!

Dugre is punishing Pierce with strikes - can he finish him?!

Dugre looking for the choke from the back.
Pierce trying to control the hands but Dugre breaks the grip.
Dugre has the hooks in. Pierce is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Pierce takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Pierce trying to control the action but Dugre just sinks the hooks in.
Dugre controlling the position well here. Pierce rolled but Dugre kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dugre is trying to stick to Pierce's back but Pierce is turning into Dugre. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Dugre's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Pierce.
Dugre bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pierce's guard.
Dugre postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pierce pulls Dugre in close to his closed guard and prevents Dugre from doing any damage or advancing position.
Dugre preventing the sweep.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Chris Dugre.
I think Dugre has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
