Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Gable (ranked 2051 p4p, 1790 weight class) and Cody Lake (ranked 278 p4p, 244 weight class). Daniel Gable could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Cody Lake's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Gable!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cody Lake!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gable moves out of range as Lake strikes.
Gable wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Lake waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gable.
Gable ducks under a wild hook from Lake.
Gable has a takedown stuffed.
Lake now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Gable swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Gable changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lake looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Lake explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Lake circles away from the clinch attempt.
Nice shot lands for Gable.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lake throws a jab but it's blocked by Gable.
Lake misses with an uppercut.
Daniel Gable seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gable cracks Lake with a right hand to the side of the head.
Gable shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lake sprawls well. Lake wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gable gets slowly back to his feet.
It seemed like Lake was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Gable keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Lake.
Lake throws out a loose jab but Gable uses good head movement to avoid it.
Gable takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Gable shoots in but Lake avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Gable. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gable tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lake defends well and Gable ends up having to push Lake into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Lake lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Lake wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gable has him pressed against the cage.
Lake is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Gable tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lake just stands there and leans against the cage.
Lake lands a nice elbow.

It looks like Daniel Gable has been cut.

Lake breaks the clinch.
Gable shoots in for a takedown but Lake shows good takedown defense.

Gable shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lake napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Lake bucks up and tries to throw Gable off but instead Gable has got his back!
Gable seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gable is riding his opponent, not letting Lake buck him off.

Lake is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Gable off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Lake defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Gable's arms.

Lake is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Lake grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.

Lake must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lake trying to stand up but can't free himself from Gable's guard.

Lake stands and steps away. Gable gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Lake scores with a decent looking hook.
Gable tries to bum rush Lake with a series of wild strikes but Lake uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cody Lake is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gable dives in for a single leg takedown but Lake sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Lake breaks the clinch.
Gable walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Gable shoots in for a takedown but Lake shows good takedown defense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Gable closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gable lands in his opponent's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lake wants to get back to his feet but Gable is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Lake keeping moving, preventing Gable from controlling successfully.
Lake wants to stand up but Gable is controlling him.

Gable postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lake is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gable, into his guard.


Gable is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Cody Lake dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Daniel Gable's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Lake looks to land a right hand but Gable moved out of range.
Lake getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Lake missing with a left hand there. Gable was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Lake fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Gable wants to clinch.
A decent looking cross lands there for Lake.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters circling - Lake throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Gable fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lake avoids it really well and circles away.
Lake throws a looping overhand right but Gable ducks down to avoid it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lake stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Gable gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Gable is rocked!
Gable uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lake.
Oh Gable is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lake throws a nice looking combination but Gable bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gable seems to have got his legs back now.
Gable looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Gable fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lake, pushing him back against the cage.
Gable is trying to pull guard but Lake turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Gable. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lake tries to break the clinch but Gable is controlling the position.

Lake pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gable throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A countering left hand to the body from Lake misses.
Gable wants to clinch up but Lake keeps it at a distance.
Lake lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Lake stuffs the takedown attempt from Gable. Gable gets slowly back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gable feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lake is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Gable tries to pull guard but Lake won't allow it.

Lake breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Lake lands with a right hand.
Gable misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gable shoots and misses
and Gable takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Daniel Gable's cut is getting worse.

Gable rushes Lake and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Gable tries to pull guard but Lake holds him up against the cage and eventually Gable drops back down to his feet.
Lake tries to circle away but Gable has him pinned against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lake breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Lake has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Gable shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lake as he avoids it easily.
Lake looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Nice defenses there by Gable.
Lake gets in close and tags Gable with a short punch that almost sends Gable to the mat! Oh Gable is in big trouble! He turns his back on Lake, trying to create some distance but Lake rushes him, striking wildly and Gable goes down! The referee tackles Lake into the cage to end the fight! Lake is one violent man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cody Lake!
Cody Lake took to the mic in his post fight interview and said 'See! That was to easy! Give me the title shot for the winner of Chimaev vs Ilmarinen because neither of them deserve it. '.
