PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jota Be (ranked 2839 p4p, 1978 weight class) and Chris Travis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Travis has chosen Chris Travis - Crunch Time as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jota Be!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chris Travis!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Eddie Farnsworth and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Be's jab looks to have found its range, popping Travis under the eye.
Be slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Chris Travis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Be on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Be throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A nice inside leg kick there by Travis. That's going to slow Be down.
A right-left combo lands from Travis.
Travis lands with a straight right. Be didn't see that one coming.
Be throws a jab but it's blocked by Travis.

Travis closes the distance and clinches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Be is trying to maintain a safe position but Travis gets an underhook and turns Be into the cage.
Be is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Be wants to stall.

Be tries to break free but Travis pushes him back against the cage.
Travis tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Travis blocking some punches.

Travis turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Be trying his best to control but Travis has mounted him.
Be tries to hold on but Travis pushes him away.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Travis working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Travis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Be tries to lock up and control but Travis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Be is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Travis prevents Be from getting the reversal.

Travis controlling the pace for now.

Be is looking to improve his position but Travis isn't that keen on the idea.
Be wants to control but Travis is having none of it.
Travis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Be wants to try and get back to his feet.
Travis controlling from the full mount.
Be is working to get back to half guard.
Travis avoids the attempt from Be to control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Be is looking to improve his position but Travis isn't that keen on the idea.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Travis throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Travis. Be shrugs it off though.
Travis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Be avoids it really well and circles away.
Be displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Travis throws out the jab.
A cross from Travis lands.
Be throws a hook but Travis avoids it easily.
Travis looks like he wants to counter punch here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Be keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Travis.
Be fires out a quick counter leg kick but Travis just manages to avoid it.
Travis slips a straight right by Be.
The fighters circling - Travis throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Travis swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Be.

Be looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Be walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Be takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Travis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Travis lands with a nice combination. Be backs away looking to recover.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Travis looks to land a left hand but Be moved out of range nicely.

Be throws a lazy uppercut
and Travis counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Chris Travis seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A shot to the body from Be misses
and Travis counters with a straight right hand.
Be throws a poor cross that misses
and Travis counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Be takes one on the chin but seems OK.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Travis. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Be uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Travis.
A little feinted left hand from Be on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Travis clobbers Be with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Be tries to move into range but Travis moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Travis connects with a looping right hand.

Travis misses with a looping right.
Be throwing a counter right hand but Travis manages to avoid it.
Good shot there by Travis.
Travis throws an overhand right that lands on Be's shoulder, as Be tries to avoid the shot.
Travis swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Be.
Be throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Travis connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Be's hands.

Be is rocked!
Donk. Travis catches Be right on the button with a cross.
Oh Be is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Travis has taken the fight to the clinch.
Be seems to have got his legs back now.

Be pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Be uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Travis.

Jota Be is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Travis lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Travis feints and then cracks Be's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Be down.

and Travis counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Be looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Be takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Travis feints and then cracks Be's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Be down.
Be misses with an uppercut
and Travis connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Nice uppercut lands for Travis. That snapped Be's head back.
Travis walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Be drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Travis swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Be's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris Travis!
