PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jake Bird (ranked 128 p4p, 192 weight class) and Thor White (ranked 19 p4p, 31 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake Bird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thor White!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Hirohito Nitta and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White throws a hook but Bird avoids it easily.
Bird changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Bird misses with a jab to the body
and White cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Bird gets a clinch.
White's coach down at CHECMATE PRIME MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on White's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Bird lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

White pulls Bird into guard.
Bird advances position into side control!

Bird wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by White, who protects the arm well.

Bird got a little sloppy there for a moment and White has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bird has managed to get both his arms back between White's legs - danger averted.

That was a close round but I would say that Jake Bird will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

White throws out a loose jab but Bird uses good head movement to avoid it.

White ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Bird throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
White is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
White is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

White is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Bird with a body shot.

White uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bird.
Bird is looking to wear down White with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
A looping hook to the body misses from Bird. White does a little dance to reset his feet.

A little jabbing left from White on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Bird shoots in for a takedown but White shows good takedown defense.

White displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bird throws out the jab.
Bird throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent White stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Jake Bird seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

As White tries to get set, Bird tries to push him back and clinch up but White manages to avoid the attempt.

It seemed like White was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Bird fakes high and swings low for a body shot but White manages to avoid it.
