PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Maks Teller (ranked 2472 p4p, 4120 weight class) and Cau Ryhein (ranked 298 p4p, 429 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maks Teller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cau Ryhein!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot by Teller.
Teller throws a hook but Ryhein blocks it.
Teller throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Teller lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Teller looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ryhein throws a sloppy head kick and Teller moves out of range easily.
Donk. Teller catches Ryhein right on the button with a cross.
Teller has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Ryhein finds it's way round the side to connect with Teller's head.
Ryhein scores with a jab.
A nice leg kick from Teller, right into the meat of the thigh.
Teller looks to score with a jab to the body but Ryhein is just out of range.
Ryhein throws a low kick, looking for Teller's leg but Teller calmly moves out of range.
Teller tries to land a front kick but Ryhein steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Teller takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ryhein uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Teller.
Teller throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Ryhein on the side of the head.
Teller looks to throw the jab but Ryhein is out of range.
Teller backing away here, and Ryhein unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Teller lands with a straight right. Ryhein didn't see that one coming.
Teller lands a body shot.
Teller throws a lazy right hand but Ryhein sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Teller takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Ryhein throws a lazy right hand but Teller sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ryhein has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Teller throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ryhein was covering up waiting for the punch and Teller finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ryhein has his hands on Teller's head, controlling the position.
Teller wants to control from the top but Ryhein keeps moving.
Teller loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Teller postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Teller forces his way into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Teller seems to be working for a kimura but Ryhein defends the submission attempt.
Teller thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ryhein's head.
Ryhein is doing well to control the position and prevent Teller from advancing to side control.
Teller looks to land a strike but Ryhein avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Teller trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ryhein keeping moving, preventing Teller from controlling successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Teller accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ryhein is controlling Teller's posture.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Teller throws a strike but Ryhein rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Teller is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ryhein won't allow Teller to get back to his feet.
Teller wants to improve his position but instead Ryhein has moved into half guard.

Ryhein passes the guard and advances to mount!

Teller tries to hold on but Ryhein pushes him away.
Ryhein wants to control the pace but Teller is squirming around nicely.

Ryhein throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Ryhein cracks Teller with a right hand to the side of the head.
Teller on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Teller uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ryhein.
Ryhein has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Teller uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Ryhein has time to react.
Teller lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Ryhein backs up against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Teller throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ryhein sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Ryhein gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Ryhein gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Ryhein pushes Teller off and gets back to his feet.
Ryhein closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Teller darts in looking for a takedown but Ryhein gets double underhooks and turns Teller into the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Ryhein creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Teller is trying to force a seperation but Ryhein has the dominant position.
Teller tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Ryhein keeps control of Teller as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Teller jumps guard but Ryhein turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Ryhein stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ryhein wants it to stay on the feet.

Ryhein avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Ryhein looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Ryhein thuds his right hand into Teller's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Ryhein tries to clinch but Teller is having none of it.

Teller throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Teller was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Teller walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
An inside leg kick from Teller misses.
Ryhein blocks a jab.
Ryhein wants to land a leg kick but Teller is out of range.
Teller throws a hook but Ryhein blocks it.
Teller takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Ryhein connects with a crisp jab.

Teller pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Ryhein back to the cage. Teller follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Teller lunges at Ryhein with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Ryhein's hand.

Ryhein gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Teller is trying to break the clinch but Ryhein has him pressed against the cage.

Ryhein breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Maks Teller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ryhein does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Ryhein stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Teller.

Ryhein ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Teller moves away.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Teller fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ryhein avoids it really well and circles away.

Teller rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ryhein moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Teller shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Ryhein has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Teller slips a jab and a cross from Ryhein.
Teller throws out a loose jab but Ryhein uses good head movement to avoid it.
Ryhein lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Teller misses with a looping left.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Teller throws an overhand right that lands on Ryhein's shoulder, as Ryhein tries to avoid the shot.

Oh Teller is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Teller walks straight into a right hand from Ryhein - that's dropped him! Ryhein jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Teller from any more punishment! Teller complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Cau Ryhein!
