PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Balal Lama (ranked 415 p4p, 771 weight class) and Roger Sparr (ranked 58 p4p, 92 weight class). Sparr is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: OH NO!. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Balal Lama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roger Sparr!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lama fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sparr looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Sparr scores with a hook to the body. Lama takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Lama walks into a straight right hand from Sparr.

Lama drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sparr is looking to reverse the position.

The referee asks Lama politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Lama prefers to stall for the moment though.
Lama scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sparr to see if he's OK.
Lama tries to score with some ground and pound. Sparr controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Lama looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sparr with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Lama has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lama seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sparr does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Lama is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Sparr.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Sparr counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Lama lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Sparr has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Sparr and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Lama throws out a loose jab but Sparr uses good head movement to avoid it.

Lama shoots in for a double leg but Sparr sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Balal Lama is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Balal Lama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
