The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OByrne slaps away a takedown attempt from Mesquita, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mesquita closes the distance looking to clinch
and OByrne connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
OByrne throws a good cross that connects.
Mesquita will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
OByrne throws a sloppy head kick and Mesquita moves out of range easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mesquita takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Mesquita tries to work over OByrne's front leg with a kick but OByrne checks it.

and OByrne counters with a crisp right hand that drops Mesquita! OByrne lets Mesquita back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
OByrne throws a nice looking combination but Mesquita bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Mesquita misses the shot to the body.
OByrne gets caught napping as Mesquita dives in and scores a takedown. OByrne manages to retain guard.
OByrne manages to escape and get back to his feet.
OByrne stuns Mesquita with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Mesquita tries for a takedown but OByrne circles away easily
and OByrne counters with a head kick that drops Mesquita to the mat! Mesquita scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
OByrne is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Mesquita had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.

Sloppy strikes from Mesquita. Those never looked like landing.
OByrne throws out a counter right but Mesquita avoids it with no problem.

and OByrne counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
OByrne lands a big right hand that sends Mesquita crashing to the mat! OByrne stays standing though and waves Mesquita back to his feet!
A head kick by OByrne - that's a beauty! Mesquita is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even OByrne can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
