PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hirata Hitoshi (ranked 2931 p4p, 3294 weight class) and Maks Teller (ranked 362 p4p, 397 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hirata Hitoshi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maks Teller!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Eddie Farnsworth and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hitoshi takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Hitoshi takes a jab right on the kisser.
Teller tests Hitoshi's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Teller looks to land a right hand but Hitoshi moved out of range.
Maks Teller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice defenses there by Hitoshi.
Hitoshi fails with a takedown attempt.
A swing and a miss from Teller.
Hitoshi feinted with a counter takedown.
Nice shot by Teller.
Hitoshi dives in and grabs Teller's left leg, looking for a takedown. Teller pushes down on Hitoshi's head and hops out.
Hitoshi walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Teller throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hitoshi.

Teller connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Teller might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Teller takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

A lazy left from Teller finds it's target.
Teller moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Teller lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Teller.

Teller has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Hitoshi is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Hitoshi takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Teller won't allow Hitoshi to pass to mount.
Teller is trying to stand up here but Hitoshi is controlling him well.

Teller makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hitoshi closes the distance and clinches.
I was talking to Hitoshi's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Teller prevents a takedown attempt there.

Hitoshi doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Hitoshi has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Teller clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Hitoshi's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Teller is trying to stand back up.
Hitoshi misses with punches from the back.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hitoshi is working the ground and pound. Can Teller escape?
Hitoshi lands with a hammerfist to the side of Teller's head.
Hitoshi punishes Teller with strikes from the back mount.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Maks Teller dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Teller scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

A slapping leg kick lands for Teller.
Teller tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hitoshi swivels and escapes.
Teller throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hitoshi's waist but Hitoshi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Teller off to one side.
Hitoshi half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Teller throws a hook but Hitoshi blocks it.
Teller throws a low kick but Hitoshi avoids it.
Teller jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Hitoshi bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Maks Teller seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Hitoshi shoots in looking for a takedown. Teller tries to sprawl out of it but Hitoshi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Teller manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Teller regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Hitoshi.
Teller is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hitoshi is controlling him.
Teller looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hitoshi is one step ahead there.
Teller wants to stand up but Hitoshi is controlling him.
Hitoshi trying to control the position from guard on top but Teller is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Teller is controlling Hitoshi's posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hitoshi is in close to Teller's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hitoshi throwing strikes but missing.
Teller controlling the position.
Hitoshi lands a couple of digs.
Hitoshi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hitoshi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Teller works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Teller keeping moving, preventing Hitoshi from controlling successfully.
Hitoshi looking to sit in guard and control but Teller gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Hitoshi wants to sweep but no luck.

Maks Teller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Hitoshi shoots for a takedown but Teller saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Teller misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Teller swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hitoshi fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Teller avoids it really well and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Teller feints a jab promting Hitoshi to slip. Teller then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Hitoshi slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Teller shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hitoshi as he jumps to the side.
Hitoshi drops down looking for a counter takedown but Teller sprawls and moves away.
Hirata Hitoshi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maks Teller.

Hitoshi walks into a stiff left hand from Teller.
Teller ducks under a wild hook from Hitoshi.
Hitoshi looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Hitoshi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Hitoshi takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Hitoshi throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Hitoshi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hitoshi prevents Teller from standing back up.

Teller is staying active underneath Hitoshi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Teller tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Hitoshi is nestled in close to Teller, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Teller has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Teller pushes Hitoshi off looking to stand but Hitoshi dives back in and keeps control.

Teller's corner calls for a 1-2. Teller obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Hitoshi takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Teller circles away from the clinch attempt.
Teller lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Hitoshi takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Hitoshi gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Teller.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Teller throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

The fighters circle momentarily. Teller darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Teller slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Teller cracks Hitoshi with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Maks Teller comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Teller winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
