Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ja Maica (ranked 4038 p4p, 2384 weight class) and Euan Daxton (ranked 0 p4p, 285 weight class). Ja Maica had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Euan Daxton!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Dirk Anderson and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daxton wants to clinch
enabling Maica to counter with a crisp jab.
Daxton darts in trying to clinch
and Maica counters with a nice low kick that buckles Daxton's knee momentarily.
Maica circles away from the clinch attempt.
As Daxton looks to move away, Maica throws a big counter combo but Daxton just gets out of the way.
Daxton tries to clinch but Maica moves away
and Maica counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Maica keeps the fight on the outside.
Daxton tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Maica counters with a two punch combo.
Good leg kick by Maica.
Daxton tries to close the distance and clinch but Maica swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Maica makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Euan Daxton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Daxton closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Maica goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Maica tries to break free but Daxton pushes him back against the cage.
Daxton is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Maica to keep the fight standing.

Daxton tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Ja Maica has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Euan Daxton.

Daxton is trying to pull guard but Maica turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Maica has had enough of the clinch but Daxton keeps him there for the moment.

Daxton working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Maica doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Maica manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Daxton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Maica is aware though and is defending well.
Maica is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Daxton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maica is one step ahead there.

Daxton is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Daxton prevents Maica from improving his position.
Maica is trying is best to control the position here.
Daxton content to control rather than advance.
Daxton looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Daxton tries to pass to full mount but Maica defends it.
We've been hearing good reports from Maica's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Maica wants to control but Daxton is keeping busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Daxton slows the pace down in half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Maica is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Daxton has latched onto it... Big trouble! Daxton pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Maica is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Daxton!
