Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Ryan (ranked 1027 p4p, 1009 weight class) and Jubei Akechi (ranked 138 p4p, 136 weight class). Eddie Ryan could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jubei Akechi's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddie Ryan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jubei Akechi!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Sam Margolis and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akechi uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ryan.
Akechi is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Ryan with a body shot.
Ryan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Akechi moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Akechi looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Akechi pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Ryan bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Akechi's head.
Ryan lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Ryan fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Akechi has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ryan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Akechi connects with a single shot there.
Ryan works the jab nicely.

Akechi thows a left - swing and a miss!
Ryan misses with a left hand
and Akechi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Ryan misses with an uppercut
and Akechi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ryan moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Ryan misses the jab.
Ryan throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Akechi stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Jubei Akechi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ryan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Ryan misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ryan looks to land a right hand but Akechi moved out of range.
Akechi lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Ryan misses with a hook. Akechi ducked under it nicely.

Ryan manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Akechi on his heels. He'll look to pass Akechi's guard now, I'm sure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Akechi can't keep his opponent in guard - Ryan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Ryan is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Akechi is defending against the submission attempts here by Ryan.

Ryan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Akechi doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ryan.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Ryan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Akechi is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Akechi has escaped and now he's on top!


Ryan isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Akechi stacks Ryan on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Akechi!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Ryan lands a lovely overhand right.

A little jabbing left from Akechi on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Ryan looks to land a left hand but Akechi moved out of range nicely.
Nice takedown defense from Akechi. No joy for Ryan on that attempt.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Akechi! But no joy.

Ryan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Akechi can do to turn this around?

Akechi shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Ryan throws a shot from downtown. Akechi moves away and avoids it.

Ryan lands a nice hook to Akechi's body. Akechi takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Akechi lands with an overhand left.
Ryan throws a series of punches but Akechi moves out of range.
Akechi let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Akechi lands a right hook to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ryan. Akechi does a little dance to reset his feet.

Ryan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Akechi is fending him off so far but Ryan persists. Nope, Akechi circles away and we're back to standing.
Akechi is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Ryan takes a swing at Akechi's ribcage but misses.
Akechi throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ryan tries to counter with a takedown but Akechi is quick to defend against it.

It looks like Eddie Ryan has been cut.
Eddie Ryan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ryan closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Akechi's guard.

Ryan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Akechi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ryan has Akechi in his guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Eddie Ryan will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Ryan shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Akechi manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Ryan is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Akechi to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Ryan wants to pass the guard but Akechi is keeping the position.

Ryan is looking to advance position but Akechi has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Ryan sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Ryan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Akechi pulls his head out easily.

Ryan looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Akechi pushes past his half guard into mount!

Ryan keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Eddie Ryan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Eddie Ryan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ryan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
