PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Rome (ranked 1830 p4p, 1735 weight class) and Senger Line (ranked 241 p4p, 233 weight class). Line has chosen For Heavy Metal we will die! as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 13 - 3, fighting out of Amsterdam, Curtis Rome!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Senger Line!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Vladimir Khabensky and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Line throws a hook but Rome avoids it easily.
Rome swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Line throws a wild body kick that Rome sees coming a mile off.
Rome looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Senger Line seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Line, as that shot connected.
Line misses the jab.
Rome slips a straight right by Line.
Rome misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Line feints a counter leg kick.

Rome closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Rome tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rome has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, if Line is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Rome has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Line is working away from the top position though.
Rome moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Line lands a couple of elbows.
Line cracks Rome with a solid left hand.
Rome looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Line loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rome seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Line keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Rome's head.

Line is in close to Rome's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rome keeping full guard, as Line tries to pass.
Rome wants to sweep here but Line controlling him for the moment.

Senger Line dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Rome checks a leg kick.
Line misses with a leg kick.
Line tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rome was well out of range. Poor timing from Line.
Line attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Rome gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rome.

Rome is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Line has escaped the position, nice work there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rome wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Line, who protects the arm well.

Line manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Line accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Line is thwarting Rome's attempts to control the position.

Line looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rome with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Rome moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Rome looking to hit a scissor sweep but Line is one step ahead there.
Rome wants to hit a sweep here but Line passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Rome there!
Rome takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Line connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Rome sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Line has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rome tries to get to full guard but Line has control of the leg.
Rome wants to get back to his feet.
Line working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Line scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Rome looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Rome is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Line's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Line's back!

Line is really stuck here.

Rome has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Line has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Line manages to reverse the position and now he's in Rome's guard. Nice work there by Line.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Line is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Senger Line has got the better of the ground game so far.
Line looking to sit in guard and control but Rome gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rome is looking to advance position but Line has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Senger Line showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Rome shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Line as he jumps to the side.
Line throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Rome counters with a straight right hand.
A low kick from Line misses
and Rome connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Line throws a series of punches but Rome moves out of range.
Line misses with a hook.
Rome was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
A leg kick checked by Rome.
Rome thinks about countering with a head kick.
Rome staying out of range there.
Rome wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Line misses with a straight right.
Line throws a low kick but it's checked well by Rome.
Line throws a front kick aimed at Rome's knee but Rome avoids it well.
Rome is looking to counter with head kicks.

Line keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Nice takedown defense from Rome. No joy for Line on that attempt.
Rome avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Line throws an off balance right hand

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Line tries to lock up and control but Rome gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Rome moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Line has worked his arm free - good work by Line!
Line manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Rome is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Line tries to roll over but Rome keeps him under control.

Rome is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Line sees it coming and defends easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Line is looking for a sweep. Rome is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rome is pressing down on Line's thigh, looking to free his foot. Line is holding on for now.
Line trying to control here.
Line has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Curtis Rome showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Line has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
