PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ruud Altena (ranked 2644 p4p, 3197 weight class) and Shalak Kamir (ranked 341 p4p, 394 weight class). Altena comes to the cage accompanied by Grontapu by Double Rock. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ruud Altena!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shalak Kamir!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Altena misses with a wild body shot.
Kamir throws a low kick but Altena moves out of range easily.
Altena has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kamir.
Kamir fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Altena looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
The fighters circling - Kamir throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A little feinted left hand from Altena on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Nice cross by Kamir.
Altena catches Kamir napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Kamir to the canvas!
It looks like Shalak Kamir has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Altena gets to his feet. Kamir looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Oh, that's a big right hand from Altena and Kamir goes tumbling to the canvas! Altena follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
Kamir is rocked!
Altena is thwarting Kamir's attempts to control the position.
Kamir is still in real trouble! Can Altena finish him?
Altena decides to return to a standing position.
We've been told by Altena's head coaches at Canadian Combat Academy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
A chopping leg kick lands by Altena.
Kamir is starting to get sloppy and is letting his hands down. Altena just took advantage and landed a stinging jab. Oh! Now a right hook, right on the button! Kamir has gone limp and this one is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ruud Altena!
An out of breath Ruud Altena thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
