PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Towns (ranked 4125 p4p, 4445 weight class) and Daniel Patrick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Patrick's choice of entrance music: I Win!. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake Towns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Daniel Patrick!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Glass and Steven Brown.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patrick throws out a loose jab but Towns uses good head movement to avoid it.
Towns tries to close the distance and clinch but Patrick swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Patrick closes the distance and pushes Towns back into the cage.
Towns is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Patrick gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Towns is trying to push Patrick away but Patrick has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Patrick lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Towns.

Patrick is trying to trip Towns. He has hold of a leg but Towns is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Patrick persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Patrick is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Patrick pushes down on Towns's leg and manages to get into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Towns is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Patrick jumps into side control!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Towns tries to escape but Patrick is in control.
Towns can't do much from the bottom here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Patrick decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Towns flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Patrick wants to work for an arm triangle but Towns is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Patrick wants to free his trapped foot but Towns is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Towns tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Patrick wants to pass to mount but Towns is defending the position.
Towns wants to improve his position but Patrick is controlling well.
Towns wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Patrick shoots in but Towns avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Patrick closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Towns to the mat! Towns manages to get full guard.

Towns manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Towns's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Patrick lands on the inside with an uppercut.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Towns just misses with a elbow thrown towards Patrick's brow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Patrick pulls guard.

Towns has gone for a leg lock! Patrick slips out almost immediately though and dives into Towns's guard.

Patrick is looking to stand up but Towns won't let him.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Patrick dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and Towns counters with a nice double leg into side control. Patrick won't be happy with that.
Patrick is trying to control Towns's posture but Towns avoids it.

Towns wants to control but Patrick is keeping him busy.

Towns wants to lay and pray for a moment but Patrick keeps working.

Towns has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Patrick fails with a takedown attempt.
Patrick lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Towns circles away quickly and effectively.

Patrick moves into range and clinches up with Towns.

Patrick jumps into guard, dragging Towns to the mat.
Towns wants to stand but Patrick has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Towns trying to control the position from guard on top but Patrick is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Patrick tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Patrick has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Patrick is breathing heavily.

Patrick looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Towns with a nice head shot there.
Towns will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Towns trying to control the position from guard on top but Patrick is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Towns is looking to stand up but Patrick won't let him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Towns fails with a takedown attempt.

Patrick misses with a wild combination.
Patrick stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Patrick wants it to stay on the feet.
Patrick fails to land the takedown.
As Patrick looks to move away, Towns throws a big counter combo but Patrick just gets out of the way.
Towns tries to clinch there but Patrick circles away.
Towns goes for a double leg but Patrick avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Patrick continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Towns. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Patrick turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Patrick has control of an arm but Towns manages to advance to Patrick's back!

Towns is persistently looking for the submission but Patrick is defending it well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Patrick takes a big shot to the side of the head.

Patrick is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Patrick is trying to get back to his feet but Towns has full control of the position and if anything, Patrick has just worked his way into a worse spot.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Towns shoots for a double leg takedown but Patrick sprawls well. He's pushed Towns's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Towns holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Patrick just misses with a elbow thrown towards Towns's brow.

Patrick breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Patrick feints and as Towns raises his hands in defense, Patrick changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Towns is wriggling around but Patrick manages to pass to half guard.

Towns tries to get to full guard but Patrick has control of the leg.

Patrick slips a nice elbow through Towns's hands, connecting with Towns's forehead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Patrick is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Patrick is working to tighten his grip on Towns's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Towns has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Patrick is really squeezing tight and eventually Towns passes out! Patrick breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

A very excited looking Daniel Patrick rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
