PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dylan Batt (ranked 4391 p4p, 4390 weight class) and Ylli Bakaj (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Batt comes into the arena with HOPE blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dylan Batt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ylli Bakaj!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Sano and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batt takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Bakaj takes a swing at Batt's ribcage but misses.
Batt avoids a punch combination nicely.
Batt takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Ylli Bakaj seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Batt fails to land the takedown.

and Batt counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Batt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Batt prevents Bakaj from improving his position.

Batt thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Bakaj wants to control but Batt is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Batt decides to stand up.
Batt tries to clinch there but Bakaj circles away.
Batt shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bakaj but Bakaj pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Batt closes the distance and clinches up with Bakaj, looking for a takedown. Batt pushes Bakaj against the cage but Bakaj circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dylan Batt. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bakaj lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Bakaj takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Bakaj uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Batt tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bakaj sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Batt somewhat.

Bakaj throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Batt keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Bakaj.
Good exchange - Bakaj coming out on top.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bakaj moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Batt uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bakaj.
Batt appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Bakaj throws a left and a right that both miss
and Batt counters with a thumping low kick.
Bakaj takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Bakaj misses with a combination
and Batt counters with a left and a right that stings Bakaj.
Bakaj lands a jab to the head.
Batt shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Ylli Bakaj is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Batt gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Batt misses with a punch to the body.

Batt pulls guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bakaj accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Batt is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bakaj is aware though and is defending well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Batt working for a triangle but Bakaj defends it easily.

Bakaj throws a sloppy strike and Batt has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Bakaj is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Batt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Dylan Batt!
Dylan Batt looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'All I wanna say is it was a pleasure sharing the cage with you and although I know this wasn't how you pictured the fight going, there's always the next one. Keep your head up'.
