PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Michael Barnes (ranked 1936 p4p, 1457 weight class) and Nasir Prince (ranked 171 p4p, 128 weight class). Prince is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Nas- N.Y. State of Mind. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Barnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nasir Prince!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnes tries a low kick but Prince avoids it.
Prince wants to clinch up but Barnes keeps it at a distance.
Barnes attempts a counter takedown but Prince avoids it well and moves away.
Prince keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Prince checks a leg kick.

Barnes has taken the fight to the clinch.

Barnes pulls guard successfully.
Barnes looking for a sweep. Not yet Barnes, not yet.
Barnes is working hard here to advance position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barnes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Prince doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Prince manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Barnes wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Prince is now in half guard.

Barnes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Prince swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Barnes in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Prince avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Barnes.
Barnes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Prince keeps working.
Barnes lands a decent elbow from side control.
Barnes throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Prince works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Barnes is trying to control. Prince wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Barnes throws a strike but Prince rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Barnes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Barnes not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Barnes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Prince is one step ahead there.
Prince must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Prince has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Barnes is proving hard to escape from.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Barnes is on top in guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Barnes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Prince stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Barnes walks into a straight right hand from Prince.
Prince jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Barnes fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Prince manages to avoid it.
Prince throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Barnes takes one to the side of the head.

Prince slips under a jab.

Barnes on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Prince. Prince obviously looking to wear him down.
Barnes throws a shot from downtown. Prince moves away and avoids it.
Barnes looks to score with a jab to the body but Prince is just out of range.
Nasir Prince seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barnes bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Prince moves out of range as Barnes throws a body kick.
Barnes looks to land a right hand but Prince moved out of range.
Prince throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Barnes throws a low kick, looking for Prince's leg but Prince calmly moves out of range.
Prince scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Prince darts in and clinches Barnes up against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Prince lands an uppercut.
Prince lands a left hand that snaps the head of Barnes backwards.

Barnes gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Barnes working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Nasir Prince showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Barnes fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Prince has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Barnes feints and as Prince raises his hands in defense, Barnes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Barnes has gone for a leg lock! Prince slips out almost immediately though and dives into Barnes's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Barnes is on top in guard.

Barnes postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Prince is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Barnes, into his guard.

I would just about give that final round to Nasir Prince.
I think Prince has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
