The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The crowd cheers as Thomas lands an impressive looking overhand right. Franjic doesn't seem phased though.

Thomas has closed the distance and engaged Franjic in a clinch.
Thomas tries a body shot but Franjic blocks it.
Thomas tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Franjic's elbow.

Franjic's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

I was talking to Thomas 's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Thomas tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Franjic's elbow.

and Franjic finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

A counter left hand to the body from Thomas misses its target.
Thomas is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Franjic.
A little jabbing left from Franjic on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

and Franjic makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Franjic thuds a left hand into Thomas 's body.
Thomas is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Franjic cracks Thomas with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Franjic has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Thomas to stand back up!
Franjic pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Franjic moves out of range of the body kick.
Derrick Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Franjic throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Thomas counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Franjic counters with a lovely straight right hand!

and Franjic counters with a nice right hand that sends Thomas toppling to the canvas! Thomas scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Franjic finish him?!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Franjic drops Thomas with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Thomas looks back up at him and smiles so Franjic waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Oh Thomas is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Derrick Thomas 's cut is getting worse.
BAM! Franjic delivers a spinning backfist that drops Thomas like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!

A relieved looking Rade Franjic thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
