PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gustavo Andrade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shinji Kurokami (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Shinji Kurokami was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gustavo Andrade!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinji Kurokami!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Andrade misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Andrade throws a right and a left that Kurokami avoids nicely.

Kurokami displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Andrade throws out the jab.
Andrade fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Andrade rushes Kurokami and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kurokami goes for a takedown in the clinch but Andrade prevents it.

Andrade pulls guard successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kurokami is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Kurokami must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Andrade is trying to control the position but Kurokami postures up.

Kurokami is fighting to break Andrade's control of his arms but Andrade is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Andrade bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kurokami's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kurokami had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Andrade is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Kurokami Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Andrade's back instead.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Andrade wants to control from the top but Kurokami keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kurokami avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kurokami shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kurokami was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Andrade reaches up to try and control the position but Kurokami seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Andrade rolls and tries to escape and now Kurokami has his back!

Andrade looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Kurokami's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kurokami is trying to stick to Andrade's back but Andrade is turning into Kurokami. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Kurokami's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Andrade.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Andrade moves in looking to clinch but Kurokami pushes him off.

Kurokami drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Andrade's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Andrade is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Andrade is looking to regain half guard here but Kurokami keeps moving and retains side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kurokami decides to stand back up. Kurokami steps back and let's Andrade get back to his feet.

Kurokami closes this distance looking for a takedown but Andrade circles away.
No luck for Kurokami with that takedown attempt.
Andrade wants to clinch

and Kurokami counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kurokami.
Andrade looking for a sweep. Not yet Andrade, not yet.
Andrade is pulling down on Kurokami's head. It's preventing any offense from Kurokami, at least for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shinji Kurokami showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Andrade doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kurokami counters with a single leg into guard. Andrade didn't expect that.

Andrade is working an open guard so Kurokami takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Andrade is looking for a sweep. Kurokami is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kurokami is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Andrade manages to get to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Andrade pulls Kurokami in close to his closed guard and prevents Kurokami from doing any damage or advancing position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Kurokami decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Andrade's guard.
Andrade looking for a sweep. Not yet Andrade, not yet.
Andrade controls Kurokami momentarily but Kurokami frees himself.
Andrade wants to hit a switch here but Kurokami passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Andrade there!

Kurokami is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Kurokami fails with the takedown.
A head kick by Andrade misses
and Kurokami counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Andrade is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Kurokami closes the distance and clinches.
Andrade looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gustavo Andrade. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kurokami drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Andrade has hold of one of Kurokami's legs. Kurokami is fighting the takedown attempt but Andrade gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Andrade loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Andrade wants to control from the top but Kurokami keeps moving.

Kurokami is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kurokami kicks Andrade off and gets to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shinji Kurokami comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kurokami has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
