The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Galatico. No joy for Funaki on that attempt.
Masakatsu Funaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Funaki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Galatico's waist but Galatico gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Funaki off to one side.

Funaki gets a takedown into half guard.

Funaki looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Galatico wants to get back to his feet.
Funaki takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Galatico pushes Funaki off looking to stand but Funaki dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Funaki is trying to control. Galatico wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Funaki could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Funaki is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Galatico sees it coming and defends easily.
Funaki trying to mount his opponent but Galatico defends it.
Galatico really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Funaki. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Funaki is breathing heavily.
Funaki is trying to control the action in half guard but Galatico is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Galatico is trying to stand up here but Funaki is controlling him well.

Funaki is looking for a kimura but Galatico is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Funaki to get the leverage.
Funaki works his way into full mount!
Galatico wants to control but Funaki is having none of it.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Galatico can do anything to dispel that myth.

Galatico tries to lock up and control but Funaki gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Galatico is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Funaki looking to isolate an arm here. Galatico doesn't see it coming and as Funaki extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Funaki!
