PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sirus Hall (ranked 1520 p4p, 2226 weight class) and Ryo Hamada (ranked 206 p4p, 290 weight class). Hall comes to the cage accompanied by Thin Lizzy - Cold Sweat. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sirus Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryo Hamada!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hamada gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hall to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Hall throws an elbow that misses. Hamada uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hall's guard. Nice move by Hamada!

Hall keeping moving, preventing Hamada from controlling successfully.
Hamada stands and throws Hall's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hamada trying to control the action but Hall is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hamada lands a decent elbow from side control.
Hall is not content to let Hamada control the position.
Hall tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hamada wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hall keeps working.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hamada looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Hall manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Hall tries to roll over but Hamada keeps him under control.
Hamada wants to pass the guard but Hall is defending well.
Hamada prevents Hall from improving his position.
Hall wants to control but Hamada is keeping busy.

Hamada is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hall regains full guard. Nicely done.

Hall escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hamada gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hamada tries to free his leg and advance position but Hall is retaining full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hamada throws a lazy uppercut
and Hall counters with a lovely straight right hand!

It looks like Ryo Hamada has been cut.
Hamada keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hall avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Hamada cracks Hall with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Hall lunges at Hamada with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hamada's hand.
Hall fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hall stuns Hamada with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Hamada tests Hall's chin there with a solid looking shot.

A close round but Ryo Hamada will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Hamada lands a jab-cross combination.
Sirus Hall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hall stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Hamada.

Hamada manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hall on his heels. He'll look to pass Hall's guard now, I'm sure.

Hall postures up in Hamada's guard and throws a big left but Hamada blocks it.

Hall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hamada swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hamada is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Hall trying to hold on to Hamada's head to control him but Hamada postures up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hamada in particular looking to stall.
Hamada not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Hall is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hamada is looking for a kimura but Hall is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hamada to get the leverage.
Hall has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hamada is working away from the top position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hall lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hamada circles away quickly and effectively.
Hamada looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Hall takes a swing at Hamada's ribcage but misses.
Hall closes the distance and clinches up with Hamada, looking for a takedown. Hall pushes Hamada against the cage but Hamada circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hall misses with a body shot.
Danga de danga de dang - Hall scores with a four punch combination!

Hamada looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hamada is taking a breather. Hall says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hall is looking to improve his position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ryo Hamada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Hamada shoots in looking for a takedown. Hall tries to sprawl out of it but Hamada keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hall manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hall connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Hamada's hands.
Hall throws a hook to the side of Hamada's head but Hamada sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hall moves out of range as Hamada strikes.

Hamada throws a hook to the side of Hall's head but Hall sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hamada scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Hamada throws a leg kick that is checked

and Hall counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hamada won't be happy with that.

Hall is looking to advance position but Hamada won't allow it.

Hall is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hamada sees it coming and defends easily.
Hall wants to advance to full mount but Hamada doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Hamada tries to strike from the bottom.
Hall looking to pass the guard.
Hall is looking to pass into half guard but Hamada pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Hamada is in guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Hamada sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hall's guard.

Hall makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hall.

Hall is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Hamada passes Hall's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Sirus Hall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hamada is looking to advance position but Hall won't allow it.

Hall wants to get back to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hall is not content to let Hamada control the position.
Hall has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hamada is working away from the top position though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hamada in particular looking to stall.
Ryo Hamada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Hall is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Hamada jumps into side control!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sirus Hall.
I think Hamada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
