PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ryal Hoof (ranked 5322 p4p, 4448 weight class) and Sly Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sly Baker will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ryal Hoof!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sly Baker!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baker's corner calls for a 1-2. Baker obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Hoof takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Hoof seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Baker jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Sly Baker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baker slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Hoof is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Hoof with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Baker to score with a decent uppercut.
Hoof looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Baker lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Baker tests Hoof's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Nice shot lands for Baker.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Baker jabs Hoof right on the nose. Hoof blinks but takes it well.
Hoof gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Baker connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Hoof momentarily.
Baker throws a nice outside leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Baker scores with a jab to the head.
Baker feints and then cracks Hoof's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hoof down.
Hoof uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Baker.
Hoof changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Baker scores with a leg kick.
Baker throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Hoof decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Baker's guard.
Hoof sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Hoof throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Baker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hoof slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Hoof seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Baker for as long as he can get away with.
Baker avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hoof controls from within his opponent's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Baker lands with a cross.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Baker connects with a body shot that sends Hoof's belly button to the back.
Hoof needs to keep his hands up - Baker had a free shot at his head there.
Baker misses with a lunging right hand

and Hoof counters with a nice double leg into side control. Baker won't be happy with that.
The referee asks Hoof politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hoof prefers to stall for the moment though.
Hoof continues to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Baker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hoof staying calm.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Baker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hoof. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sly Baker dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Baker connects with a right hand. Hoof shakes it off.
Baker darts in trying to clinch

and Hoof counters with a shoot takedown. Baker fights it but they end up in guard.
Hoof distracts Baker with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Hoof throwing strikes from guard but Baker blocks nicely.
Hoof works a leg free and moves into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baker avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hoof.
Hoof seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Baker blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hoof.
Hoof slows the pace down in half guard.
Hoof working over Baker with some ground and pound. Baker looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Ryal Hoof overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hoof takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Hoof working the head and body with strikes.
Hoof is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hoof is nestled in close to Baker, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Hoof controlling the action here.
Hoof passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Baker!
Hoof looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoof cracks Baker with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Hoof is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Hoof working away from the top, dropping strikes.

Baker is rocked!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Hoof! Baker is hurt baaadly! Hoof is firing away with more strikes - Baker is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ryal Hoof!
