PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James Marlow (ranked 4397 p4p, 4344 weight class) and Bob Cyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, James Marlow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bob Cyle!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cyle smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Some bone on bone action there as Marlow checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Cyle catches Marlow with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Cyle fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Marlow dives in and scores a takedown into Cyle's guard.
Marlow sitting in guard here, content to control.
Marlow working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Marlow engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Marlow passes Cyle's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Marlow is trying to control. Cyle wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Cyle is in trouble now - Marlow has advanced to mount!
Cyle is squirming around, avoiding Marlow's attempts to control the action.
Cyle is trying to escape the mount.
Cyle in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Cyle is looking to get to half guard.
Cyle squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Marlow looking to control and managing it successfully.
Cyle is looking to improve his position but Marlow isn't that keen on the idea.
Marlow wants to control the pace but Cyle is squirming around nicely.

Marlow get's back to his feet.
Cyle scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Marlow on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Cyle thuds his right hand into Marlow's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
A decent looking cross lands there for Cyle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Marlow clinches with his opponent.
Cyle is trying to push Marlow away but Marlow has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Cyle missing with knees to the body.
Marlow drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Cyle gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Cyle is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Marlow escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cyle tries to land a front kick but Marlow steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Marlow throws a sloppy head kick
and Cyle cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Cyle scores with a jab to the head.
Cyle pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Marlow pushes Cyle up against the cage in a clinch.

Marlow breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Marlow tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cyle swivels and escapes.
Bob Cyle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Danga de danga de dang - Cyle scores with a four punch combination!
Marlow has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Marlow. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cyle throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Marlow swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Marlow looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Marlow is breathing heavily.
Cyle wants to stand and escape but Marlow is having none of it.
Marlow passes Cyle's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Marlow seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bob Cyle will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Cyle connects with the punch.
Marlow shoots for a double leg takedown but Cyle sprawls well. He's pushed Marlow's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A little jabbing left from Cyle on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Cyle is looking to score with low kicks.
Cyle scores with a jab.
Cyle tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Cyle throws a right and a left that Marlow avoids nicely.
Cyle bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Marlow's head backwards.
Cyle misses with a low kick.
Marlow uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cyle.
Cyle is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Marlow closes the distance and clinches.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Marlow as Cyle tries to tie him up.
A frustrated look appears on Cyle's face as he tries to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cyle tries to break free but Marlow pushes him back against the cage.
Marlow is looking for a takedown.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Cyle gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Marlow.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Marlow. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Marlow has Cyle pressed against the cage, preventing Cyle from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Cyle tries to circle away but Marlow has him pinned against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Cyle's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Cyle is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Marlow is trying to pull guard but Cyle has him pressed against the cage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Cyle breaks from the clinch.
Cyle throws a right hand that Marlow ducks under and follows up with a left that Marlow also avoids with ease.
Bob Cyle seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Marlow tries to clinch there but Cyle circles away.
Cyle swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cyle has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cyle is breathing heavily.
Marlow throws a body kick that misses.
Cyle misses with a kick to the body

and Marlow counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cyle won't be happy with that.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cyle can do anything to dispel that myth.
Cyle is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Marlow asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Marlow trying to control the action but Cyle is working from the bottom.

Marlow lands a nice forearm strike.
Marlow looks up at the clock and then as Cyle takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Marlow smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Cyle is trying to get back to half guard.

Marlow stands up and beckons Cyle to his feet.

Marlow shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cyle is trying to defend but Marlow finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Marlow escapes and gets back to his feet.
Marlow shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cyle as he jumps to the side.
Cyle moves out of range of the leg kick from Marlow.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Cyle.
James Marlow is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Cyle. Marlow shrugs it off though.
Marlow fails with a takedown attempt.
A countering left hand to the body from Cyle misses.

Marlow closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cyle quickly recovers to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Cyle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Marlow looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Cyle pivots, looking for a leg kick but Marlow is out of range and Cyle settles back down.

Marlow dives in and scores a takedown into Cyle's guard.
Marlow wants to control from the top but Cyle keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Marlow is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Marlow trying to control but Cyle is working from the bottom.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Marlow in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Marlow shoots in for a takedown but Cyle shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cyle misses with an attempted mid kick.
Marlow keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Cyle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nice body punch from Cyle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cyle scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Cyle lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Marlow has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Marlow and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Marlow swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Cyle looks to land a body kick but Marlow moved away.
Marlow walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Cyle throws a solid leg kick but Marlow takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Cyle.
Marlow half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Cyle jabs Marlow to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Marlow tries to close the distance and clinch but Cyle swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cyle blocks a head kick by Marlow.
Marlow moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Cyle lands a nice looking body kick.

Marlow clinches with his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Marlow pulls guard.
Marlow controls Cyle momentarily but Cyle frees himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Marlow looking for a guillotine here but Cyle defends easily.
Cyle's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Cyle stops Marlow from standing up.
Cyle tries to free his leg and advance position but Marlow is retaining full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Marlow is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Marlow is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bob Cyle is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Marlow throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Cyle has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marlow is working away from the top position though.
Marlow prevents Cyle from improving his position.
James Marlow has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Cyle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Cyle winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
