PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricki Pixley (ranked 4423 p4p, 4474 weight class) and Jarmonicah De Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ricki Pixley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jarmonicah De Silva!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pixley closes the distance and pushes De Silva back into the cage.
De Silva is working for takedown but Pixley is calmly controlling the position for now.
Pixley slowing the pace effectively.
Pixley misses with a punch to the body.
De Silva tries for a takedown but Pixley manages to get underhooks.
De Silva has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Pixley is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Ricki Pixley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jarmonicah De Silva.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pixley has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but De Silva regains guard immediately.

Pixley is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Pixley is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pixley is pushing down on De Silva's leg trying to pass to half guard. De Silva is fighting to maintain full guard but Pixley has managed to sneak the leg through.
De Silva is looking to improve his position.
Pixley is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for De Silva!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pixley has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Pixley's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Pixley.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
De Silva is looking to improve his position but Pixley isn't that keen on the idea.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Pixley shoots in and bounces De Silva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Pixley stands and throws De Silva's legs to the side, diving into side control.
De Silva is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Pixley moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from De Silva.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
De Silva takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Pixley tries for a kimura but De Silva is defending well.
Pixley remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Ricki Pixley overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pixley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
De Silva struggling a bit here.
Pixley is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Pixley shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pixley in particular looking to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
De Silva wants to get back to full guard but Pixley has passed into side control.
Pixley controls the position.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Pixley closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. De Silva did well to prevent Pixley getting side control.
Pixley perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

De Silva is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

De Silva is looking to regain half guard here but Pixley keeps moving and retains side control.
De Silva is letting Pixley control him for a moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pixley continues to hold on tight.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Pixley seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down De Silva for as long as he can get away with.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Pixley is nestled in close to De Silva, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Jarmonicah De Silva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ricki Pixley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Pixley looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Well Pixley has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
