PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jay Porter (ranked 944 p4p, 5183 weight class) and Dmitry Rodichkin (ranked 138 p4p, 485 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jay Porter has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jay Porter seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Porter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dmitry Rodichkin!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Viktor Lagutenko and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Porter moves into range and connects with a jab.
Porter misses with an uppercut.
Rodichkin takes a swing at Porter's ribcage but misses.
Danga de danga de dang - Porter scores with a four punch combination!
A combination from Porter does no damage.
Despite the aggression on Rodichkin's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Rodichkin walks into a straight right hand from Porter.
Rodichkin bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Rodichkin doesn't manage to clinch there - Porter circles away.
A slow jab from Rodichkin misses its intended target.

Rodichkin gets a clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Porter fails to land.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Porter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Porter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rodichkin.
Porter ducks under a wild hook from Rodichkin.
Rodichkin slips under a jab.
Rodichkin tries to move into range but Porter moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Porter throws a lazy right hand but Rodichkin sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Decent striking displayed by Rodichkin there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rodichkin misses with a double jab
and Porter counters with a nice body shot.
Porter looks to land a combination. Rodichkin sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Porter swings for the body but Rodichkin moves out of range.
Rodichkin tries to counter with a clinch but Porter shakes him off and moves away.
Porter swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Rodichkin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Porter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Porter looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rodichkin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Rodichkin working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Rodichkin won't allow Porter to get back to his feet.
Rodichkin is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Porter seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Rodichkin is looking to work some ground and pound but Porter has wrist control.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Porter has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Rodichkin is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Rodichkin tries a body shot but Porter blocks it.
Rodichkin drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Porter gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Rodichkin swings away with an uppercut that misses.

A head punch on the inside from Porter fails to land.

Porter pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Donk. Porter catches Rodichkin right on the button with a cross.
Rodichkin fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Porter looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Rodichkin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Porter quickly recovers to half guard.

Porter is looking for a sweep. Rodichkin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Porter pushes Rodichkin off looking to stand but Rodichkin dives back in and keeps control.

Rodichkin throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Porter regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Rodichkin.
Rodichkin working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Porter's head.

Rodichkin postures up in Porter's guard and throws a big left but Porter blocks it.
Rodichkin throws a strike but Porter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Porter is looking to work some ground and pound but Rodichkin has wrist control.
Rodichkin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Porter's guard.

Rodichkin in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Porter can't keep his opponent in guard - Rodichkin advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Rodichkin seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jay Porter will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Rodichkin pushes Porter up against the cage in a clinch.
Rodichkin can't find room to land a body shot as Porter controls the action.

Rodichkin turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Rodichkin looking to control but instead Porter has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Porter is doing well to control the position and prevent Rodichkin from advancing to side control.

Porter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Porter wants to control but Rodichkin is keeping busy.

Porter is rocked!
Rodichkin distracts Porter with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Oh Porter is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rodichkin is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Rodichkin stands up over Porter, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Porter is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Rodichkin gets to his feet and stands over Porter, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Porter felt that one! Rodichkin unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Porter from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dmitry Rodichkin!
Dmitry Rodichkin seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
