PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pultti Pyssy (ranked 2431 p4p, 1367 weight class) and Jubei Akechi (ranked 284 p4p, 180 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pultti Pyssy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jubei Akechi!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, William Gold and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pyssy fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Akechi is out of range.
Pyssy connects with a leg kick.
Akechi lands a jab to Pyssy's midsection.
Pyssy misses with a straight left.
Akechi swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Akechi takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Pyssy misses with a low kick.
Pyssy misses with a few strikes there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Pyssy counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Akechi takes a kick to the side of the head.
Akechi misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Pyssy.
Pultti Pyssy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Akechi doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Akechi throws a series of punches but Pyssy moves out of range.
Pyssy shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Akechi as he avoids it easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pyssy scores with a jab. Akechi acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Pyssy fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Akechi holds on and takes a little breather.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Pyssy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Akechi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Akechi looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Akechi has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Pyssy misses with a low kick.
Pyssy clobbers Akechi with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Pyssy looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Akechi is looking for the big counter here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pyssy fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Akechi has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Pultti Pyssy is winning the standup battle so far.

A looping hook to the body misses from Akechi. Pyssy does a little dance to reset his feet.
Pyssy feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Pyssy throws a leg kick that misses.
Pyssy misses with a jab, cross combination.
Akechi throws a jab when Pyssy was well out of range.

Pyssy throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Akechi was covering up waiting for the punch and Pyssy finishes the takedown easily into guard.

A very excited looking Pultti Pyssy rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
