The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Martins rushes Cummings and presses him up against the cage.
Cummings dodges an elbow strike from Martins.

We've been hearing reports that Cummings has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Cummings went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Martins uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Martins throws a body shot but no joy.
And Cummings counters with a quick kick to the body but Martins blocks it.

Cummings is trying to pull guard but Martins turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Cummings. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Oh Cummings is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Martins's coach down at Gold Samurai's Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Martins's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Martins gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cummings.
Martins creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Cummings's defenses.
Cummings avoids a wild elbow strike from Martins.

Martins moves into range and clinches up with Cummings.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Martins just misses with a elbow thrown towards Cummings's brow.
Martins connects with a nasty looking knee right to Cummings's face.

David Cummings's cut is getting worse.
Martins pushes off an throws an elbow but Cummings leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Martins is pushing Cummings up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Martins throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Martins doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Cummings tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Martins manages to break the clinch.

Martins closes the distance and pushes Cummings back into the cage.
Cummings tries to pull guard but Martins forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Martins looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Cummings jumps guard but Martins turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Martins misses with a punch on the inside.
With the fighters up against the cage, Martins throws an elbow but misses.
Cummings is trying to pull guard but Martins has him pressed against the cage.
Martins misses with a hook from the clinch.
Martins misses with the head strike.

Martins breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The crowd cheers as Martins lands an impressive looking overhand right. Cummings doesn't seem phased though.
Martins misses with a wild combination.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Martins has closed the distance and engaged Cummings in a clinch.
Martins misses with an elbow over the top.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Diogo Martins dominated that round.
The cut man is working on David Cummings's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

The referee is keeping an eye on Martins - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Cummings is pulling down on Martins's head. It's preventing any offense from Martins, at least for the moment.

Martins wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Cummings's closed guard. He's half up but Cummings has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Cummings pivots and extends the arm, Martins falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Cummings! Well done that man!
