Thompson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Thompson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maseki on the ground.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Thompson fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Maseki checks it well.
Maseki wants to counter the offense by Thompson and move into the clinch position.

Maseki takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Thompson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Maseki's guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Maseki working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Thompson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Thompson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
