PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vanity Payne (ranked 4482 p4p, 3005 weight class) and Rasta Mufasa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vanity Payne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rasta Mufasa!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paulsen Ambrosius and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payne throws a head kick that misses.

Payne gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Payne looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Payne trying to keep a closed guard but Mufasa is proving a slippery customer.

Payne isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mufasa stacks Payne on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mufasa!

Mufasa stands up and beckons Payne to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mufasa shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Payne as he jumps to the side.

Payne drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Mufasa wants to get back to his feet but Payne passes into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Payne tries to pass to full mount but Mufasa defends it.
Mufasa is looking to escape.
Payne is nestled in close to Mufasa, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Payne content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Mufasa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Payne is controlling the pace.
Payne working the head and body with strikes.
Payne passes the guard and advances to mount!
Mufasa is trying to escape the mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Payne sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mufasa is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Mufasa looks winded!
Mufasa slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Payne is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Payne prevents Mufasa from improving his position.

Payne decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Mufasa fails with an attempt to clinch.
A quick step to the side and Payne tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mufasa enables Payne to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mufasa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Payne has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Payne closes the distance and pushes Mufasa back into the cage.

Payne is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Payne is trying to break the clinch but Mufasa has him pressed against the cage.

Mufasa fails with an attempt to clinch.

Mufasa lands with a slapping head kick.
Mufasa lands a nice leg kick that just misses Payne's sensitive parts.
Mufasa tries to close the distance and clinch but Payne swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mufasa keeps Payne at a distance using the push kick.

Mufasa fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Payne avoids it really well and circles away.
Mufasa is breathing heavily.
Payne stuffs the takedown.
Mufasa tries to clinch up

and Payne decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mufasa's guard.
Mufasa is wriggling around but Payne manages to pass to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Payne seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mufasa can do anything to dispel that myth.
Payne wants to pass the guard but Mufasa is defending well.

Mufasa is trying to maintain the position but Payne is very close to passing his half guard.
Payne trying to control the pace.

Payne seems to be working for a kimura but Mufasa defends the submission attempt.
Payne landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Payne is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mufasa can do to turn this around?

Mufasa trying to control but Payne postures up.
Payne scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Payne trying to mount his opponent but Mufasa defends it.
Well, if Payne is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Payne trying to mount his opponent but Mufasa defends it.
Payne working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Payne works his foot free and advances to mount.
Payne raining down shots from the mount!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Vanity Payne dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Payne throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mufasa shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Payne but Payne pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mufasa tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Payne misses the shot to the body.
Payne looks to score with a jab to the body but Mufasa is just out of range.

Payne shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mufasa's guard.

Payne decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Vanity Payne is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Payne looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Payne perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Vanity Payne overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mufasa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mufasa wants to control but Payne passes into side.
Mufasa is being controlled here.
Mufasa is pushing Payne's head away, looking to escape. Payne manages to hold on to the position though.

Payne swings around for an armbar but Mufasa sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Payne's guard.
Payne looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Payne is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mufasa is controlling him.
Payne is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mufasa stopping the sweep attempt from Payne.
Mufasa trying to control the position from guard on top but Payne is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Payne is pulling down on Mufasa's head. It's preventing any offense from Mufasa, at least for the moment.

Mufasa tries to free his leg and advance position but Payne is retaining full guard.

Payne looking for a triangle here. Mufasa is fighting it but it looks tight! Payne pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Mufasa is tapping out - this one is all over!
