PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rustam Kadurov (ranked 1818 p4p, 3223 weight class) and Benjamin Walton (ranked 250 p4p, 405 weight class). Rustam Kadurov is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rustam Kadurov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Benjamin Walton!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kadurov tries for a takedown but Walton sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Kadurov shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Walton manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Walton is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Walton is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Walton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kadurov is working Walton over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

and Walton counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A nice leg kick lands there from Walton.

and Kadurov counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Walton is looking to clinch but Kadurov is avoiding it.

Kadurov fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Walton to the ground. Kadurov is now in Walton's guard.
Walton has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kadurov has passed into side control.
You can see the frustration on Walton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The strikes coming from Kadurov are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Kadurov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Walton seems a little lost for a moment, as Kadurov dominates the positioning.

Walton felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kadurov misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Walton looks to move to half guard but instead Kadurov has passed into mount! Damn!

Walton is squirming around, avoiding Kadurov's attempts to control the action.

Walton is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Walton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kadurov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kadurov swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Walton is now in Kadurov's guard. A big mistake from Kadurov there, giving up the dominant position!

Kadurov shoots in looking for a takedown but Walton manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kadurov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Walton is pushing Kadurov up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
A frustrated look appears on Kadurov's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Kadurov pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Walton displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kadurov.

Kadurov looks to land a left hand but Walton moved out of range nicely.
Walton tries to close the distance and clinch but Kadurov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Kadurov is looking to work some ground and pound but Walton has wrist control.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kadurov, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Rustam Kadurov decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
