PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Willson (ranked 3928 p4p, 6456 weight class) and Un Kha (ranked 512 p4p, 0 weight class). Kha has chosen Eye of the tiger as his entrance music. Un Kha will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sam Willson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Un Kha!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kha shoots in and drives through. Willson sprawls well.
Willson misses with a kick to the body
and Kha counters with an inside leg kick.
Sam Willson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kha changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Willson tries to avoid it but Kha manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Willson to the ground. Willson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Willson throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Willson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kha to the ground. Willson is now in Kha's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kha is looking to stand up but Willson isn't so interested in that idea.
Willson landing with the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Willson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Willson wants to stand but Kha is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Willson sitting in guard here, content to control.
Willson wants to control from the top but Kha keeps moving.

Willson stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Horrible takedown attempt by Kha or perhaps it was just good defense by Willson, which made it look bad.
Sam Willson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Un Kha.

Willson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kha did well to prevent Willson getting side control.
Kha pushes Willson off but Willson dives into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kha is trying to escape the position but Willson is controlling the position.
Willson trying to control the action but Kha is working from the bottom.

Willson decides to stand back up.
Willson misses with a few strikes there.
Willson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kha.

Willson fails with the takedown.
Kha walks into a stiff left hand from Willson.

Kha gets caught flat footed, as Willson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Willson gets to his feet. Kha looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Kha tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Willson swivels and escapes.
Kha looks winded!

Willson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Kha tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Willson seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Kha's chin but Kha turns very nicely into Willson's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Kha.
Willson is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Kha looking to sit in guard and control but Willson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Willson dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Willson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kha circles away.
Willson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kha sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Willson somewhat.

Kha looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Willson!

Willson explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Kha counters with a low kick, right behind Willson 's knee.
Sam Willson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Willson doesn't manage to clinch there - Kha circles away.

Kha shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Willson is trying to defend but Kha finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Willson manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Kha keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Willson tries for a takedown but Kha manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Willson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kha landing knees to the body.

Willson successfully pulls guard.
Sam Willson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Willson is adopting a defensive guard.

Willson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Kha slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kha controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Willson wants to get back to his feet but Kha is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kha tries to free his leg and advance position but Willson is retaining full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Willson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Willson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Willson trying to control but Kha is working from the bottom.

Willson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Willson trying to control the position from guard on top but Kha is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kha looking for a sweep. Not yet Kha, not yet.

Willson gets to his feet - Kha follows without any prompting.
Willson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kha is fending him off so far but Willson persists. Nope, Kha circles away and we're back to standing.
Kha wants to counter the offense by Willson and move into the clinch position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Willson shoots for a takedown but Kha saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Willson lands a jab.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Willson dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Willson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kha as he avoids it easily.
Kha looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

And Kha responds with a good body kick, but Willson manages to step out the way in time.
Kha shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Willson but Willson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Willson wants to work for an arm triangle but Kha is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Willson trying to control from half guard but Kha is working away.
Willson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Willson passes to full mount!
Kha really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Willson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Willson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kha is looking to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
You get the feeling that Kha really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Willson is trying to control here but Kha has managed to regain half guard.
Kha is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Willson jumps into side control!

Willson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kha to his feet.
Willson fails in his attempt to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Willson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Willson scores with a kick to the midsection.
Willson stuffs the takedown attempt from Kha. Kha gets slowly back to his feet.
Willson looks to land a combination. Kha sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Kha avoids the head kick by Willson.
Kha tries for a takedown but Willson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kha stuffs the takedown.
Kha fails with a takedown attempt.

Willson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kha manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Willson keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sam Willson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Willson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
