PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jonders (ranked 4675 p4p, 4652 weight class) and Mike Iron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jon Jonders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Iron!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jonders looks for a takedown but Iron sprawls well.
Iron wants to counter with a clinch but Jonders pushes him away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Iron dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Iron manages to break the clinch.
Iron avoids the head kick by Jonders.
Jonders is looking to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Iron closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jonders to the mat! Jonders manages to get full guard.

Jonders manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Jonders fails with a takedown attempt.

Iron throws a lazy right hand but Jonders sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Iron rushes Jonders and presses him up against the cage.

Iron's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jonders pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jonders changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Iron tries to avoid it but Jonders manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Iron to the ground. Iron escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Jonders. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jonders is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jonders fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Iron circles away from the clinch attempt.
Iron is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.

Iron drives through and clinches with Jonders against the cage.

Jonders not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Iron is on top in guard.

Jonders had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Iron defends it easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jonders is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Iron defends well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jonders throws a head kick that misses.

Iron clinches up with Jonders and pushes him back against the cage.

Jonders is fighting off a takedown attempt but Iron is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Jonders to the mat. Jonders regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Iron slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jonders is working an open guard so Iron takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Iron wants to get up but he can't break Jonders's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Jonders is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Iron is aware though and is defending well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Iron shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jonders manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Jonders wants to sweep but no luck.

Iron works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Iron slips a nice elbow through Jonders's hands, connecting with Jonders's forehead.
Iron trying to mount his opponent but Jonders defends it.

Iron stops Jonders from getting back to his feet.
Iron thows a huge punch but Jonders dodges it nicely.

Jonders is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Iron jumps into side control!
Iron is looking to take a break and control but Jonders is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Iron looks up at the clock and then as Jonders takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Iron smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Iron stands up.
Iron checks a leg kick nicely.

Iron closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Jonders defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Iron.

Jonders throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jonders is looking to clinch.

Iron throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jonders was covering up waiting for the punch and Iron finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jonders throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Jonders keeping moving, preventing Iron from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jonders is on top in guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Iron not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Mike Iron showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Jonders's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Jonders scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Iron doesn't seem bothered though.

Iron has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jonders tries to clinch up but Iron circles away and keeps his distance.

Iron takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Iron thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Jonders throws an elbow that doesn't really do any damage.
Jonders is looking to regain half guard here but Iron keeps moving and retains side control.
Jonders is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Iron off and has taken his back!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Iron is trying to stand back up.
You can see the frustration on Iron's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Jonders goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Iron escapes and is now in half guard on top.
Iron performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jon Jonders.
Well Iron has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
