PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Martin Alverz (ranked 4431 p4p, 5467 weight class) and Mzeke Lingo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lingo comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Rich nigga kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Martin Alverz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mzeke Lingo!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Bart Greer and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice body kick from Lingo.

Alverz has closed the distance and engaged Lingo in a clinch.

Lingo manages to pull guard.
Lingo looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Let's hope that Lingo has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Lingo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Lingo wants to sweep but no luck.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lingo is controlling Alverz's posture.

Lingo working for a triangle but Alverz defends it easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Alverz forces Lingo back against the cage and clinches.
Alverz tries to land knees in the clinch but Lingo avoids the damage to the body.

Alverz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lingo's waist but Lingo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Alverz off to one side.
Alverz pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Alverz has Lingo up against the cage in a clinch.
Lingo is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Alverz tries to pull guard but Lingo won't allow it.
Lingo lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Lingo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Lingo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Alverz misses with a leg kick
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Lingo moves into range and clinches up with Alverz.

Alverz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lingo goes for a double leg but Alverz avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Alverz continues to drive forward.
Lingo looks winded!
Lingo throws a head kick that misses.
Alverz shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lingo defends it nicely.
As Alverz backs off Lingo throws a huge counter combo but Alverz manages to avoid it all.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Martin Alverz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Alverz.
Lingo is trying to control Alverz's posture but Alverz avoids it.

Alverz wants to stand but Lingo has his arm trapped.

Alverz decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Lingo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alverz.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alverz throws a series of punches but Lingo moves out of range.
Alverz throws a right hand that Lingo ducks under and follows up with a left that Lingo also avoids with ease.
Lingo misses with a wild combination.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Martin Alverz will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Alverz misses with a few strikes there.

Lingo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alverz, pushing him back against the cage.
Alverz's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Alverz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lingo walks away with a smile on his face. Alverz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Alverz fails with the takedown.
Lingo shoots in looking for a takedown but Alverz manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lingo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Alverz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Lingo pushes Alverz off and scrambles back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Alverz moves into the clinch.
Lingo is breathing heavily.
Alverz trying to stall but Lingo improves his position.

Lingo breaks the clinch.

A thudding body kick lands there by Alverz!
Lingo moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Lingo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alverz as he avoids it easily.
A counter left hand to the body from Alverz misses its target.
Lingo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Alverz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lingo somewhat.
Martin Alverz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mzeke Lingo.

Alverz moves into the clinch.
Alverz pushes Lingo back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Lingo with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

Lingo tries to pull guard but Alverz won't allow it.
Lingo stops a takedown attempt from Alverz.

Alverz turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Lingo explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Alverz clinches up with Lingo and pushes him back against the cage.

Alverz pulls guard.
Alverz avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lingo trying to control but Alverz is working from the bottom.

Lingo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Lingo with a flurry of punches that miss.

Alverz is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Alverz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lingo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lingo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

and Alverz holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Lingo drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Alverz gets the underhooks and prevents it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Alverz just misses with a elbow thrown towards Lingo's brow.
Alverz is trying to force a seperation but Lingo has the dominant position.
Alverz misses with a punch to the body.
Lingo scores with a knee to the head.

Alverz lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Lingo kicks Alverz off and gets back to his feet.
Alverz misses with a takedown
and Lingo counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Alverz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lingo avoids it really well and circles away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mzeke Lingo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Alverz keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
As Lingo backs away, Alverz returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Alverz is defended easily by Lingo.
Alverz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lingo tries to avoid it but Alverz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lingo to the ground. Lingo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Lingo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alverz, pushing him back against the cage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lingo on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Lingo has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Alverz avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Alverz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lingo pulls his head out easily.
Alverz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lingo on the ground.

Lingo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Lingo is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Lingo ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Lingo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Lingo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Alverz is trying to stand back up but Lingo is controlling him

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mzeke Lingo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lingo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
