Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sonny Giovanni (ranked 170 p4p, 197 weight class) and Jake Bird (ranked 24 p4p, 28 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sonny Giovanni!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake Bird!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bird throws a body shot but no joy.
Nice uppercut lands for Giovanni. That snapped Bird's head back.
Bird rushes Giovanni and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Giovanni.
Bird goes for a takedown in the clinch but Giovanni prevents it.

Bird fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Giovanni to the ground. Bird is now in Giovanni's guard.
Bird drops back looking for a leg! Giovanni is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Giovanni manages to kick Bird off! Bird jumps back into Giovanni's guard.
Giovanni wants to stand and escape but Bird is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bird tries to free his leg and advance position but Giovanni is retaining full guard.

Giovanni's coaches at Convicted Top Team have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Giovanni takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Bird misses with a hook to the body
and Giovanni counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Bird is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Giovanni displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bird.
Giovanni looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Sonny Giovanni has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Bird.

Bird ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Giovanni moves away.

Bird misses with a right hand
and Bird takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Bird throws a lazy uppercut
and Giovanni cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Bird closes the distance and pushes Giovanni back into the cage.
Giovanni breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bird changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Giovanni tries to avoid it but Bird manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Giovanni to the ground. Giovanni escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bird looks to throw the jab but Giovanni is out of range.
Giovanni lands a left and a right that send Bird crashing to the mat, dazed. Giovanni thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Bird is rocked!
Giovanni misses with a few strikes there.
Bird is still on wobbly legs! Can Giovanni finish him?
Bird just misses with a punch to the body.
Bird seems to have recovered his senses.
Whack! Giovanni lands a heavy head kick that drops Bird. The ref tackles Giovanni to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Bird was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Sonny Giovanni!
