PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Banner (ranked 3101 p4p, 3530 weight class) and Vlad DaMan (ranked 353 p4p, 398 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

DaMan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Banner sprawls well initially but DaMan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Banner tries to get to full guard but DaMan has control of the leg.
DaMan is figuring out what he wants to do next.
DaMan thows a huge punch but Banner dodges it nicely.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. DaMan connects with a nice short shot to Banner's temple.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw DaMan working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

DaMan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Banner looks to land a left hand but DaMan moved out of range nicely.
DaMan slips under a jab.
Banner connects with a nice looking jab.
Banner clobbers DaMan with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
DaMan misses with a straight left.
Banner is looking for a counter combo.

DaMan chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Banner can pounce on him.
Banner lands with a hook. DaMan tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
DaMan throws a jab when Banner was well out of range.
Banner misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
DaMan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Banner.

DaMan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Banner as he jumps to the side.

DaMan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Banner has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, DaMan has managed to get both his arms back between Banner's legs - danger averted.

Banner throws a combination but it was largely blocked by DaMan.

We've been told by Banner's head coaches at Doom's Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Banner here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Banner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The adventures of DaMan the control monster continue. Boring.

Vlad DaMan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

DaMan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Banner with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

and DaMan counters with a three punch combo that has Banner backing up. Banner nods at DaMan to acknowledge the strikes.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bruce Banner.
