The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayerhoffer shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Alpha paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Mayerhoffer avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Alpha throws a jab when Mayerhoffer was well out of range.
Alpha cracks Mayerhoffer with a big right hand and Mayerhoffer goes down!
Alpha must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mayerhoffer had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Alpha is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Mayerhoffer Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Alpha's back instead.

You can see the frustration on Alpha's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Alpha trying to control the action but Mayerhoffer just sinks the hooks in.
Alpha might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mayerhoffer kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Mayerhoffer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mayerhoffer doesn't have the hooks in and Alpha manages to turn into his guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Alpha bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Mayerhoffer! He dives into his guard looking to finish!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mayerhoffer needs to keep his hands up - Alpha had a free shot at his head there.
Mayerhoffer takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Mayerhoffer tries for a takedown but Alpha sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
