Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chad Coleman (ranked 1624 p4p, 1205 weight class) and Vern Vurris (ranked 200 p4p, 146 weight class). Chad Coleman could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Vern Vurris's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chad Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vern Vurris!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Donald Grub and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vurris is looking to clinch but Coleman is avoiding it.
Coleman tries to close the distance and clinch but Vurris swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Coleman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Vurris flicks out a counter leg kick but Coleman steps away.
Vurris stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Vurris wants it to stay on the feet.
Coleman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chad Coleman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vurris lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Coleman circles away quickly and effectively.
Coleman shoots in but Vurris avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Coleman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Vurris's waist but Vurris gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Coleman off to one side.
Vurris throws out a counter right but Coleman avoids it with no problem.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Coleman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Vurris defends it nicely.

Vurris looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

and Coleman counters with a shoot takedown. Vurris fights it but they end up in guard.
Vurris wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Vurris has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Coleman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vurris tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Coleman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Vurris sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Vurris wants to improve his position but Coleman is controlling well.
Coleman is thwarting Vurris's attempts to control the position.
Vurris tries to roll over but Coleman keeps him under control.
Vurris is pressing down on Coleman's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That was a close round but I would say that Chad Coleman will probably get the nod.

Vurris takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Coleman is trying hard to land a takedown here. Vurris sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Vurris wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Vurris fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Coleman checks it well.

Coleman fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Vurris to the ground. Coleman is now in Vurris's guard.
Vurris has his hands on Coleman's head, controlling the position.

Coleman drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vurris looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vurris looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vurris!

Chad Coleman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Vurris wants to control but Coleman is keeping him busy.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Vurris connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Coleman some visible discomfort.
Vurris tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Vurris is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Coleman sees it coming and defends easily.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chad Coleman will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Vurris working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Coleman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Coleman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Coleman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
