PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hugo Loris (ranked 204 p4p, 436 weight class) and Agansing Rai (ranked 31 p4p, 57 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rai's choice of entrance music: Break Stuff. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Hugo Loris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Agansing Rai!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Atkins and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Loris misses the shot to the body.
Rai scores with a jab. Loris acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Rai on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Loris throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rai sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Rai ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Rai has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Rai moves out of range of the leg kick from Loris.
Loris takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Loris shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Loris connects with a nice short shot to Rai's temple.

Rai manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Loris keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Loris takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Loris dives in for a single leg takedown but Rai sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Rai manages to break the clinch.
Loris bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Rai avoids the body shot from Loris.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hugo Loris will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Rai finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Loris goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Rai rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Loris's guard! Nice work there by Rai!

Hugo Loris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Loris has his foot on Rai's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rai works his way back into a safe position though.

Loris closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rai wants to get up but he can't break Loris's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rai shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Loris is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rai.

I would just about give that final round to Agansing Rai.
I think Rai has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
