PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Daizu Mitsusada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eli Samuel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mitsusada comes to the cage accompanied by A-Punk. Samuel is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bring The Goons Out. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daizu Mitsusada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eli Samuel!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Eddie Farnsworth and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samuel defending well as Mitsusada loads up on a big left hand.
Mitsusada pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Mitsusada connects with a jab.
Samuel throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mitsusada's waist but Mitsusada gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Samuel off to one side.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Samuel.

Samuel closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mitsusada did well to prevent Samuel getting side control.
Samuel thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Samuel trying to control the action but Mitsusada is working from the bottom.
Samuel is stalling here. Mitsusada is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Samuel seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Mitsusada has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Samuel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mitsusada. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Samuel wants to get back to his feet but Mitsusada drags him back down.

Mitsusada misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Mitsusada tries to score with some ground and pound. Samuel controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mitsusada connects with a solid leg kick.
Mitsusada chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Samuel looks gassed!
Samuel has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Eli Samuel has been cut.
Mitsusada fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Samuel looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mitsusada scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Samuel is trying to stand up here but Mitsusada is controlling him well.

Samuel looks like he's trying to stand up.
Mitsusada tries to pass the half guard into mount. Samuel knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Mitsusada will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Samuel pushes Mitsusada off looking to stand but Mitsusada dives back in and keeps control.

Mitsusada perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Mitsusada seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Samuel does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Mitsusada swats away the attempt to clinch by Samuel.
Samuel blocks a head kick by Mitsusada.

Samuel closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Samuel lands in his opponent's guard.

Mitsusada is controlling Samuel's posture.
Samuel with a flurry of punches that miss.
Samuel looking to sit in guard and control but Mitsusada gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mitsusada stops Samuel from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daizu Mitsusada dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Eli Samuel's cut.

Mitsusada misses with a takedown attempt - Samuel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Mitsusada counters with a stiff right hand.

Samuel shoots for a takedown but Mitsusada saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mitsusada throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Samuel keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Samuel throws a low kick, looking for Mitsusada's leg but Mitsusada calmly moves out of range.
Samuel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mitsusada tries to avoid it but Samuel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mitsusada to the ground. Mitsusada escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mitsusada misses with a two punch combination.
Mitsusada blocks a head kick by Samuel.
Daizu Mitsusada is winning the standup battle so far.

Samuel wants to clinch but Mitsusada slips to the side

and Mitsusada counters with a nice double leg into side control. Samuel won't be happy with that.

Mitsusada goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Samuel rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Mitsusada's guard! Nice work there by Samuel!

Mitsusada is working an open guard so Samuel takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Mitsusada throws out a leg kick but Samuel moves out of range and Mitsusada only half commits.
Samuel throws a leg kick but Mitsusada moved away.
Samuel fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Daizu Mitsusada is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Samuel tries for a takedown but Mitsusada circles away easily
and Mitsusada counters with a nice body shot.
Daizu Mitsusada has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eli Samuel.
Samuel takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Mitsusada thuds his shin into the meat of Samuel's side.
Mitsusada swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Mitsusada looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Samuel misses with a takedown
and Mitsusada counters with a three punch combo that has Samuel backing up. Samuel nods at Mitsusada to acknowledge the strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mitsusada has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mitsusada in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Samuel tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Mitsusada!
