The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shamrock shoots in looking for a takedown. Gonzales tries to sprawl out of it but Shamrock keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Gonzales manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Shamrock counters with a takedown into side control.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Shamrock sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Gonzales is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Shamrock is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gonzales has escaped the position, nice work there.

Gonzales is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Shamrock's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Shamrock lands a nice short elbow.

Shamrock is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gonzales sees it coming and defends easily.

Shamrock is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Gonzales still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Gonzales has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Gonzales got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shamrock has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gonzales has managed to get both his arms back between Shamrock's legs - danger averted.

Shamrock looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gonzales with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
