PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hiro Manowaru (ranked 1771 p4p, 3313 weight class) and Akuma Manivong (ranked 214 p4p, 383 weight class). Manowaru's entrance music is Lay Down. A fine choice. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 40 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hiro Manowaru!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Akuma Manivong!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Sam Margolis and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manivong shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Manowaru defends it nicely.
Manivong takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Manivong slips a jab from Manowaru.
Manivong feints the counter takedown.
Manowaru has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Cozad MMA Las Vegas in the buildup to the fight.
Manivong tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Manowaru manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Manivong takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Manowaru stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Manowaru wants it to stay on the feet.

Manivong is keen to just control but Manowaru is a slippery customer.
Well, if Manivong is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Manowaru looks like he's trying to stand up.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Manowaru fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Manivong manages to avoid it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Manivong is defended easily by Manowaru.

Manivong looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Manowaru is fending him off so far but Manivong persists. Nope, Manowaru circles away and we're back to standing.
Manivong dives in and grabs Manowaru's left leg, looking for a takedown. Manowaru pushes down on Manivong's head and hops out.
Manivong shoots for a double leg takedown but Manowaru sprawls well. He's pushed Manivong's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Manivong feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Manowaru is looking to stand up but Manivong isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hiro Manowaru will probably get the nod.

Horrible takedown attempt by Manivong or perhaps it was just good defense by Manowaru, which made it look bad.

Manivong with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Manowaru to score with a decent uppercut.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Manowaru, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
