PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ole Kopete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Kossu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kopete comes into the arena with Fight to live blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ole Kopete!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Frank Kossu!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kossu keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Kopete fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kossu throws a shot from downtown. Kopete moves away and avoids it.
Kopete throws a wild body kick that Kossu sees coming a mile off.
Kossu doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kopete counters with a good, hard body kick but Kossu shrugs it off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kopete pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kossu tries to land a front kick but Kopete steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Kossu.
Ole Kopete seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A big left from Kossu misses.
Kossu leaves Kopete with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kopete tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kossu swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kossu tries to land a front kick but Kopete steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Kossu fails with a takedown attempt.

Kossu shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Kossu tries to stand and escape but Kopete is controlling the position.
Kopete is staying active underneath Kossu, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kossu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kopete. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kopete gets back to full guard.

Kopete working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kossu doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kossu manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kopete throws his legs up looking for a submission but Kossu uses it to pass to side control.

Kossu throws a body kick that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Frank Kossu will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kopete changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kossu tries to avoid it but Kopete manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kossu to the ground. Kossu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kossu will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kossu uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kopete.
Kopete dives in and grabs Kossu's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kossu pushes down on Kopete's head and hops out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Kossu counters with a one-two to the body.

Kopete shoots in but Kossu avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kossu swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kopete counters with a solid body kick.

Kossu lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

and Kossu makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Kopete counters with an outside leg kick.
Kossu misses with an attempted mid kick.

Kossu fails with a takedown attempt.
Kopete doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kossu counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Kossu stuffs the takedown attempt from Kopete. Kopete gets slowly back to his feet.
Kossu lands a jab-cross combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kopete is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kossu sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kossu cracks Kopete with an open hand slap.
Kossu moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Kossu misses with a jab, cross combination.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kossu throws a right and a left that Kopete avoids nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Frank Kossu will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Kopete's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

and Kossu counters with a body kick that stops Kopete in his tracks momentarily.
Kopete fails to land the takedown.
Kossu stuffs the takedown.

Kossu sizes up Kopete with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Kopete looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kossu is fending him off so far but Kopete persists. Nope, Kossu circles away and we're back to standing.
Kopete chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kossu can pounce on him.
Kossu cracks Kopete with a right hand to the side of the head.
Kossu pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Kopete fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kossu lands with a kick to the ribs.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kopete is defended easily by Kossu.
Kopete wants to clinch but Kossu slips to the side
and Kossu counters with an inside leg kick.
Kossu misses with a body kick.
Kossu moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Kopete tries for a takedown but Kossu circles away easily
and Kopete takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kossu throws a one two combo.
Kopete with a lazy takedown attempt
and Kossu counters with a slapping leg kick.
Frank Kossu is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kopete takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Nice sprawl there from Kossu as Kopete shoots in.
Kossu is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kossu will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
An inside leg kick from Kopete misses.
Kopete dives in and grabs Kossu's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kossu pushes down on Kopete's head and hops out.
Ole Kopete has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kopete defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kossu.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kopete shoots for a double leg takedown but Kossu sprawls well. He's pushed Kopete's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Kossu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kossu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
