PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lars Kay (ranked 444 p4p, 260 weight class) and Rukter Demenok (ranked 41 p4p, 23 weight class). Demenok is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Moby Dick Speech. Lars Kay had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lars Kay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rukter Demenok!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Francis DeMontford and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Demenok bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Kay's head backwards.
Kay throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Demenok's waist but Demenok gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kay off to one side.
Kay moves away from the strike by Demenok.
Kay bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Demenok connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Kay momentarily.
Kay lands with a nice body punch.
Nice jab there from Kay.
Demenok has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Demenok moves out of range of the strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kay throws a body punch but Demenok moves out of range.

and Demenok counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Kay ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Rukter Demenok is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Demenok throws a leg kick but Kay sees it coming and moves out of range.
It looked like Kay wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Kay just misses with a punch to the body.
Kay scores with a hook to the body. Demenok takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Kay is looking to wear down Demenok with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Kay shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Demenok is trying to defend but Kay finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Demenok really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kay. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Demenok is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kay missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Demenok trying to keep a closed guard but Kay is proving a slippery customer.

Kay throws an elbow that misses. Demenok uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kay's guard. Nice move by Demenok!

Kay is staying active underneath Demenok, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Lars Kay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Demenok keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Kay throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Demenok sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kay misses with an uppercut.
Kay swings for the body but Demenok moves out of range.
Demenok takes one on the button.
Demenok takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Kay drops his hands momentarily and Demenok takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Kay misses with a looping left.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kay gets the takedown into side control.
Kay looks up at the clock and then as Demenok takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Kay smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Demenok is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kay off and has taken his back!
Kay is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Demenok wants to control but Kay is keeping busy.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
The adventures of Demenok the control monster continue. Boring.
I really don't envy Kay right now.

Demenok doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kay throws a jab but it's blocked by Demenok.
Kay stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Kay throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Demenok takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Demenok lunges at Kay with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Kay's hand.
Demenok ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kay moves away.

and Demenok counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Rukter Demenok is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Kay loads up on a big right hand but Demenok slips the punch.
Kay just misses with a punch to the body.
Demenok uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kay.

Demenok dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Demenok bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Demenok is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

It looks like Rukter Demenok has been cut.
Demenok misses with a double jab
and Kay counters with a lovely straight right hand!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kay shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Demenok but Demenok pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Demenok looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Kay tries to close the distance and clinch but Demenok swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lars Kay.
I think Demenok has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
